Anchorage & Fairbanks
Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, is a city that maintains the perfect mix of
stunning natural environment and metropolitan buzz. A short plane ride
opens up the possibility of almost any kind of adventure. Explore national
parks, join a bear-watching expedition, or simply wander the streets for a slice
of local life.
Fairbanks is one of Alaska’s best year-round destinations – in the summer, the
sun is up for almost 24 hours! Pan for gold in the local rivers or check out the
Indigenous Inuit history and culture of Alaska in the museums and galleries.
Don’t forget to head along to watch the dog mushing in the winter and have
a go yourself.
Our favourite things to see and do
AURORA BOREALIS – Experiencing the amazing Aurora Borealis
is a must! These giant electrical storms are formed by solar fl ares from
the sun reacting with the earth’s magnetic fi eld. This causes brilliant
displays of light fl ashing dramatically across the sky.
DENALI NATIONAL PARK – In the summer months, May to
September, take a shuttle bus into the heart of the backcountry where
you could see diverse wildlife including bear, moose and caribou, with
Mt. McKinley and unspoiled wilderness as your backdrop.
DOG SLEDDING AND HELI TOUR – Enjoy a spectacular
helicopter ride into the majestic Chugach Mountains, land on a snowcovered
glacier surrounded by towering peaks. You can even drive a
sled dog team.
ANCHORAGE CITY TROLLEY TOUR – Relax on the fully
narrated, heated trolley ride around Anchorage taking in all the
fascinating sights and attractions.
WILDLIFE – Keep your camera at the ready for bears, humpback
whales, sea lions, otters, moose and more. When driving, watch for
vehicles stopped on the side of the road – it often means that people
are watching wildlife!
GLACIERS – Head to Glacier Bay National Park where you can
cruise through icy waters looking out at massive formations of tidal
glaciers and striking silhouettes of icebergs.
PAN FOR GOLD – The lure of gold touched almost every corner of
Alaska. Pan for gold in Skagway, Nome, Juneau and Fairbanks.
