Adult Community Learning
Recognising your Achievements
If you would like to learn a new skill in a
relaxed and friendly atmosphere and gain
recognition for it then Adult Education
offers accreditation for informal learning in
a range of community settings.
Agored Cymru (formely OCN) is an awarding organisation specialising in meeting
the needs of learners in Wales. Adult Education offers accredited courses that
support progression and employability.
We offer the opportunity for students to accumulate credits for many of our
classes. No exams are required, just continuous assessments of your new skills,
which you will gain by attending regularly and enjoying the learning experience.
We offer flexible, customised learning programmes recognised; from Entry Level
to Level 3.
The majority of Adult Education programmes are accredited and are made up of
units. Each unit has learning outcomes and assessment criteria that show what
you will know, understand or be able to do when you have completed your
learning.
Why is credit important
• It could help you and other people such as potential employers, colleges and
universities to understand the type of learning you have completed and what
it is worth.
• Gaining credit for your learning can raise your confidence and motivate you
to continue your achievements.
• Your learning is divided up into small units and therefore you can build up
credits when doing a specific course, programme of study, practical learning
or training.
• A credit-based system can help you to follow a particular training or study
path.
• Credits can be taken from one place to another.
Successful students will receive a certificate on completion of the course.
