Competition aims to
find Britain’s best
forklift operator
Training body RTITB and
Sumo Glove are organising
a National Lift Truck
Operator of the Year
Competition.

National Operators
Registration Scheme
(NORS) entry to the competition
is free.
The first stage of the
competition, is completed
on-line and is a web
based theory and Hazard
Perception test, designed
to identify safe and efficient
operators. The top
eight competitors from
each of five regions -
Scotland Northern
England, Southern
England, Wales, and
Ireland - will be invited to
compete in the regional
finals.
At the regional finals
competitors will be put
through their paces both
practically and theoretically
with a series of challenges
designed to not
only assess their abilities
as operators but also to

Each regional finalist will

David Keenan, who is
best known for the pieces
he has created for the
Royal Family.
The regional champion
and runners up from each
of the five regional finals
will then go forward to the
National Grand Final to
be held at the
Headquarters of RTITB in
Telford, Shropshire on
26th September 2008.
The National
Champion will win a
new five door Ford
Fiesta, with second and
third prizes of a luxury
holiday and a European
City Break Weekend .
Again glass artist David
Keenan will be creating
unique glass
sculptures for the
winner and two
runners up.
NEW PRODUCT
Yale has introduced a new series of heavy duty
high lift reach truck masts that allow full pallets
to be lifted over 12 metres. The Yale HD mast
has a capacity of 1100Kg at 600mm load centres,
at 10,000mm lift height.
Announcing the new heavy duty
mast, which is used with the
company’s MR 16-20 reach
truck, Yale Europe’s Paul
Garrigan said: “The new
design mast is based on the
market demand to lift full
pallets above 12 metres in
complete safety, with minimum
mast twist and sway”.
The new mast has few
cross members to obstruct
the operators view, with
fork tilt and integral
side-shift as standard, to
make pallet location at
higher levels easy for
operators. The addition of
fork carriage cameras
and closed circuit TV with
an eye level monitor in
the cab, gives operators
additional confidence
when handling pallets
at above 10 metres.
