Band News
Hello Fellow Band Enthusiast:
5 th or 6 th grade parents may want to log on to power school
on a weekly basis to see your child’s progress. Since the
beginning of March I have been recording a minimum of one
grade per week, in an effort to keep you informed. Each entry
has the topic which is the focus for that day in conjunction
with the skill (technique) improving exercises for the day.
The daily 5 point grade is based on punctuality, instrument
and material readiness along with participation. As always, if
you have any questions on your child’s grade or how to access
Power Grade please contact Mrs. VanMeter or myself.
The 7 th and 8 th grade band are working on both their final
2010 concert and on the show that we will play during our
Chicago band trip June 1 st through 4 th .
The high school band students marked the end of the honor
band season on March 20 th . That culmination coincided with
the annual LouPlatte Honor Band that Gibbon hosted this
year. Due to the shared rotation each school hosts this event
once each decade. There were 85 band students selected
out of the ten schools that form our LouPlatte Conference.
Adams Central has much to be proud of as they brought 37
participants. Gibbon was tied for 2 nd place with 8 participants.
The event was a day of music making and visual pleasures
as the conference art show was held in conjunction with
the Honor Band. The day ended with a concert conducted
by veteran band director Byron Braasch of Bellevue Public
Schools.
District Music Contest is April 23 rd . Both the concert band
and jazz band will be participating, I have high hopes of
placing well! In addition to the two large ensembles there will
also be individual solo and small ensemble performances by
Liz Case, clarinet; Em Case, flute; Travis Johnson, Miramba;
Ben Gillming, trombone; Cody McGregor, trombone; Alex
Steele, trumpet; Christian Steele, trumpet; Jacob Vega,
trumpet; Seth Mitchell and Jordan Gillming, alto sax; and
Jacob Cooper, snare. This year Gibbon was assigned to the
class A/B site at Grand Island Senior High. It will be an
enlightening experience for our students as well as Gibbon
spectators to have the opportunity to listen to so many larger
schools.
Look forward to seeing you soon!
Keep those kids practicing!
Sincerely,
Brian Erickson, Band Director
Prom 2010
What one day of the year does a high-school girl devote hours of time to not just hair, nails,
makeup and “the” dress What one day of the year does a high-school boy devote more than
just a “few” minutes to showering, hair combing and attire That’s right - PROM NIGHT!
Gibbon students will be donning their best on 4-24-10. So if your promenading son and/or
daughter has left enough hot water for you, get yourself ready and come to the Ramada Inn’s Paradise
room and ooh and aah over the best looking bunch of guys and gals in Gibbon High School history!
The Junior-Senior Prom is for Gibbon students grades 11 and 12 and their dates. No 7 th or 8 th graders will be allowed to
attend. Any date who is not a student of Gibbon Public Schools must be signed up with the sponsors of the Junior Class before
the date of the prom. The junior students attending prom must have paid for their class dues prior to prom. All attendees
may be required to be tested by a breathalyzer apparatus.
Pictures and parent viewing is from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., the meal at 7:00 and dance beginning at 8:00 p.m. Dance ends at
12:00 a.m. SEE YA THERE!
