BULLET POINTS FOR THE 2011–2012 NBA SCHEDULE
For the first team in over ten years, a team will face six straight
unrested opponents. From 3/17/2012 through 3/28/2012,
the Chicago Bulls face six straight unrested opponents. In
the last five, they are rested. In fact, looking from 3/10 to 3/28, the
Bulls play ten games. In nine of the ten, they are facing an unrested
opponent. Check it out by flipping back to their schedule.
Over the past ten NBA seasons, there has been a total of one
occurrence of a team playing five games in six days. This season,
there are 29 such games.
• The Cleveland Cavs have only THREE games the entire season
in which they are rested and their opponent is not.
• The Miami Heat only host two opponents all season who are
playing the second of back-to-back road games – and in both,
they are unrested as well.
• This season has the three longest homestands in the past ten
NBA seasons. The Cleveland Cavaliers are at home from February
8th through February 28th, playing nine home games over
these 21 days. The Denver Nuggets are at home from Monday
March 5th through Wednesday March 21st, playing nine home
games on every odd day in the span. The Sacramento Kings have
a nine-game home stand from Wednesday March 7th through
Thursday March 22nd, playing nine games in 14 days. This is a
significant departure from the last strike season in 1998-99. In
that season there were no homestands of seven games or longer.
• From 3/17 to 3/28 the Chicago Bulls face six straight unrested
opponents. This is the longest unrested opponent streak this
season. The last time a team faced six straight unrested opponents
was during the 2001-02 season.
• From 3/13 to 3/17 the Dallas Mavericks have a three-game
homestand in which they are rested and each one of their op-
ponents in playing the second of back-to-back road games.
• The Cleveland Cavaliers start the season with fourteen straight
rested opponents. This is the longest string of unrested opponents
this season. Cleveland first unrested opponent this season, comes
on January 21st.
• From 1/2 through 1/5, the Buck have a string of three straight
games in which their opponent is unrested and playing their
fourth game in five days.
• On 4/14 and 4/16 the Nets play the Celtics and Heat and in
both cases their opponent is playing the second of back-to-back
road games and their fourth game in five days.
• From 4/15 through 4/19, the Hornets have four straight opponents
that are playing their fourth game in five days.
• From 1/17 through 1/25, the Utah Jazz play four straight home
games in which they are rested vs an unrested opponent. In the
last three, their opponent is playing the second of back-to-back
road games.
• From 1/10 through 1/14, the Washington Wizards have four
straight opponents who are playing their fourth game in five
days.
• From 3/5 through 3/10, the Wizards have three straight home
games vs Western Conference teams who are playing the second
of back-to-back road games.
• The Orlando Magic host six opponents this season who played
in Miami the day before. The Heat host NO opponents who
played in Orlando the day before. In 2010-11, the Miami Heat
enjoyed eight opponents who played in Orlando the previous
day.
