Fire Training Solutions

FIRE TRAINING solutions
Customised Solutions for
Fire Training Needs
The disastrous effects of fire can devastate a business
by placing lives at risk and damaging or destroying
valuable property and information. In fact, companies
that suffer a fire could go out of business. Even if
there are no injuries sustained, a serious fire often
means that people might lose their jobs.
While installing fire protection systems, alarms and
equipment is vital for any business, training staff
to respond quickly, calmly and effectively in the
event of a fire is critical. The key influence in any
hazardous situation is often how people react to it.
To help protect your people and property from the
devastating effects of fire, Wormald - Australasia’s
leader in fire protection - offers a range of
training and educational programmes to meet
workplace requirements.
From basic fire training including practical
hands-on extinguishing of a fire through to warden
and evacuation procedure training, our expert
trainers can give your staff the confidence they
need to act appropriately in a fire.
Our expert trainers have a wealth of expertise and
knowledge and regularly attend industry meetings
to keep ahead of developments in technology and
legislation. With mobile units designed to simulate
a range of different fire scenarios in a controlled
environment, our courses can give your team
valuable hands-on experience. In doing so, we help
to ensure that staff react in the most appropriate
way to minimise the potential effects of fire on
people and property.
Basic and NZQA
Unit Standard Training
Fact:
The Occupational
Safety & Health
Act 2004 requires
employers to provide
a safe environment for
their employees.
Basic Fire Training
While fire extinguishers are essential to any
workplace, they are almost useless if staff are not
properly trained in how and when to use them.
Wormald’s Fire Training course is designed to equip
your staff with the skills they need to respond to a
workplace fire and make the right decisions to ensure
their safety and minimise damage to the workplace.
Our fully qualified trainers can come to your
workplace or conduct training at an off-site facility.
Wormald’s Fire Training course uses a
combination of visual, audio and practical ‘hands
- on’ learning methods.
A unique feature of the course is Wormald’s
mobile Fire Simulator which allows staff to practice
the skills they have learned in a safe and controlled
environment.
Mounted on a trailer chassis, the unit is lightweight
and highly portable, and can be positioned on
almost any site. The flame height and intensity is
controlled by the course instructor which means
that your staff are kept safe, plus there is no risk of
damage to property.
NZQA Unit Standard 3271 Fire Training
The Unit Standard 3271 course is entitled
‘Workplace Fire and Emergency Response
– Suppress fire with hand extinguishers and fixed
hose reels’.
The course is designed to provide participants
with a live fire experience and equips them
with knowledge about all fire classes and fire
suppression techniques, plus the best way to select
and implement a strategy to deal with a variety of
fire situations.
Participants receive training in the use of water,
foam, carbon dioxide, dry powder and vaporising
fire extinguishers, fixed hose reels and fire blankets.
NZQA Unit Standard 3271 & 4647 Fire Training
Expanding upon the Unit Standard 3271 course,
Wormald also offers an additional Fire Training
course through which participants can earn both
Unit Standard 3271 and 4647 – ‘Workplace Fire
and Emergency Response – Explain principles of
fire science’.
While Unit Standard 3271 is applicable to
members of the general public in both industrial
and domestic situations, Unit Standard 4647
is primarily designed for those people whose
duties may involve fire and rescue response in the
workplace. The course work covers basic principles
of fire chemistry and the physics of fire.

Warden Training and
Evacuation Solutions
Warden Training
In the event of a building evacuation as a result of
a fire, the role of fire warden is crucial to the safety
of all building occupants. During an evacuation,
the Building or Chief Warden represents the New
Zealand Fire Service until their arrival and, therefore,
has authority over occupants of their building.
Wormald offers a comprehensive training course
designed to prepare fire wardens for an emergency
situation.
Training covers:
> The role of a fire warden
> What a warden must do in an evacuation
> The role of a Building or Chief Warden
> What happens when the Fire Service arrives
> Visitor and assistance registers
> Evacuation boards and checklists
> Evacuation signage
> Fire extinguishers and safety signs
> Legislation relating to fire evacuation
Participants are encouraged to carry out a site exercise
at their workplace to ensure they are prepared for an
emergency situation. They are also tested on their
knowledge at the conclusion of the course.
Evacuation Solutions
If you own, manage or occupy a building with
employment facilities for ten or more people; a
building where 100 or more people reside; or a
building with sleeping accommodation for more
than five people, you may be required to provide an
approved evacuation scheme.
An evacuation scheme ensures that building
occupants know what to do in the event of an
emergency. Furthermore, these schemes must be
approved and monitored by the Fire Service.
Wormald’s specialist Evacuation Consultants
can provide a range of professional solutions to
help commercial premises meet Fire Service
regulations, update existing schemes or carry out a
trial evacuation.
Evacuation Solution services include:
> Building inspections with regard to evacuationrelated
issues
> Preparation of site-specific evacuation schemes
> Preparation of applications to the Fire Service
> Liaison with the Fire Service on your behalf
> Supply of evacuation products
> Conducting trial evacuations
> Raising trial evacuation reports for building
owners and for the Fire Service
Fact:
The Building Act
2004 requires
that all buildings
are designed and
constructed to allow
people occupying the
building to escape
safely in the event of
a fire.
