Fire System - HVFS
The Heavy Vehicle Fire System has been
developed for the suppression of fires
occurring in the engine and transmission
compartments, brakes and hydraulic areas
of mining, quarrying, construction, waste
disposal and forestry vehicles.
Ordinary combustibles or flammable liquids can be
ignited by the engine, turbo charger, exhaust manifold,
electrical components or brakes. In little time the
entire machine can be involved in fire. A burst hydraulic
hose or faulty fitting can provide a continuous spray
of burning fluid. This Australian designed and
manufactured fire system is the only heavy vehicle
system that is approved by SSL, the Australian
government fire protection equipment approval
laboratories.
The Heavy Vehicle Fire System will keep fire damage
to a minimum in the machine and provide critical
defence against business interruption. The system
utilises state of the art technology including a compact,
durable cylinder-mounted discharge control valve.
Features
• Suits all vehicles
•High pressure foam-water spray nozzles
• 6% AFFF foam concentrate additive
• Built-in overpressure safety device
• Corrosion resistant
• Automatic, Manual & Remote operation available
• Low maintenance
• Australian made
The foam-water spray system discharges super-fine
water spray droplets that provide both rapid
extinguishment and dramatic cooling of hot re-ignition
sources, while the AFFF foam additive smothers fuel
and oil spill fires preventing re-ignition.
Please see our Technical Data Sheets for
additional information.

Operation
Fire detection is achieved by either
electrical or pneumatic means.
When fire is detected, the system
will be operated manually
or automatically to shutdown the
engine and discharge the fire
suppressing agent. Actuation is
available through loss of pressure
or pressure to operate by the use
of nitrogen charged cartridges.
Following actuation, the system
discharges a continuous stream of
foam-water spray for approximately
60 seconds providing security from
fire while the machine is safely
brought to a stop. The foam-water
spray extinguishing agent is
discharged through fixed discharge
hoses and specifically positioned
nozzles. It quickly covers all
protected surfaces suppressing the
fire. The system utilises stainless
steel foam storage cylinders, steel
braided hydraulic hose, and brass
nozzles with brass blow off caps.
Listing
The Wormald Heavy Vehicle
Fire System or HVFS has been
rigorously tested and proven to
meet the requirements of the
Scientific Services Laboratory (SSL)
ActivFire Scheme.
The system can be recharged on
the spot without special tools or
equipment – especially important
in remote locations.
Service
Wormald provides a 24 hour,
7 days a week emergency service,
operating from all major centres.
A telephone call to a service centre
will bring immediate action to
ensure that the fire protection
equipment is reinstated as quickly
as possible at any hour.
Maintenance
Maintenance should be conducted
on a regular basis to provide
maximum assurance that the
system will operate effectively and
safely. This routine maintenance,
or servicing and refilling after a
system discharge, can be arranged
through our local office.
