Blessing of Bikes St. Joseph’s School’s Annual Blessing of the Bikes will be held this Sunday, May 16 (rain date, 5/23) at Fort Phoenix in Fairhaven. Sign up at 10 a.m. until noon. Ride leaves at noon, sharp. Meet at the rear parking lot. $15 per bike. Run is about two hours and ends at the Ice Chest Bar & Grille in Fairhaven. Music by Shipyard Wreck, and The Relics. Boat Safety Day Flotilla 65, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and West Marine at 29 Berdon Way in Fairhaven are once again partnering to sponsor Boating Safety Day. The annual event is scheduled this year for Saturday, May 15th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, will include a visit from PFD Panda. Vessel Safety Checks by members of the Coast Guard including both federal and state requirements for safety. Boaters may take their boats to have the 10 to 15 minute vessel check performed while they wait. West Marine will be offering discount coupons for safety items as well as providing refreshments. The FHC honors 30 people who lived in Fairhaven or were closely associated with the town and who made major contributions to the history, not just of the town, but of the nation and even the world. Concert Series The Fairhaven Community Con - cert Series winds up its seventh season May 16, at 7:00 p.m. with an exciting concert featuring a string quartet from the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and a performance by the New Bedford Symphony Youth Orchestra. The concert will be held in the sanctuary of the First Congregational Church of Fairhaven. The church is located on the corner of Center and William St. Tickets are $10 for adults, students accompanied by an adult are free. Tickets available at the door. A pasta dinner catered by Pasta House will be held at 5:30 p.m. before the concert. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Make reservations by calling 508-993-3368 or 508-994-3607. These tours are given just twice a year and are different from the tours that are regularly scheduled through the summer. Each tour lasts about 90 minutes. Care Wash FR Help Shannon Medeiros’s daughter, Sylvia go to China this summer with the Peope to People program. Sylvia, a sophomore in high school, needs to raise $7,000 participate in the program. She still needs about a third of the money. She has been actively working towards her goal all year, with a table at the Old Time Holiday weekend, a car wash, a yard sale, and a spaghetti supper. Take your car to Citizen’s Bank, King’s Highway, New Bedford, on Saturday, 5/15, from 12:30 –4:30 p.m. (rain date 5/16). Robby Thatcher FR The seventh annual fundraiser for the Robby Thatcher Memorial Fund will be held Saturday, May 15th, 2010 from 8 p.m. to 12 midnight at Knuckleheads Bar & Grille, 85 Macarthur Drive in New Bedford. Music will be provided by Shipyard Wreck and Craig deMelo. Tickets are $10.00 per person and are available at the door. Robby Thatcher was a senior at Fairhaven High School when he lost his battle with leukemia at 18 years old on November 28, 2003. In his memory we give scholarships at Fairhaven High School, New Bedford High School and are planning to add one at Greater New Bedford Voca - tional this year. The Robby Thatcher Memorial Fund also provides financial support to families dealing with life threaten - ing diseases. We have partnered with the Jimmy Fund to help a help a family a month as well as local families. Many friends joined the Robby fund in providing over 500 Huggable Monkeys to sick children at Christmastime at the Jimmy Fund Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Hasbro Children's Hospital. We continue to support local food pantries and organizations.
