Job Title: Nursing Auxiliary<br />

Main Purpose of Job:<br />
Basic reason for and purpose of the position<br />
As part of a multidisciplinary Specialist Palliative Care team, be responsible for patient’s<br />
personal care needs and participate in the delivering and evaluation of patients care plans in<br />
conjunction with a Registered Nurse.<br />
Key Accountabilities:<br />
Key points that you will use to measure a person’s success in this role.<br />
1. Undertake nursing interventions such as: providing personal care to patients, including last<br />
offices. Undertake observations, simple dressings and take blood glucose levels where<br />
appropriate training has been given. At all times maintain the dignity and privacy of<br />
patients.<br />
2. Provide support to patients in emotionally challenging situations and their grieving<br />
families, sit and talk to patients and stay with dying patients when family or friends are<br />
unavailable.<br />
3. Communicating effectively with a wide range of people including nursing colleagues, allied<br />
health care professionals, medical and social work colleagues, managers, patients, carers<br />
families and friends.<br />
4. Be proficient in monitoring and supporting patient’s mobility, using aids and equipment. Be<br />
proficient in the use of moving and handling equipment including specialist baths, beds and<br />
mattresses.<br />
5. Provide support for patient’s nutrition and hydration. Feed patients as required, distribute<br />
meals being mindful of patient’s physical & dietary requirements and food handling<br />
regulations; monitor record and report patient’s intake.<br />
6. Monitor the patient’s condition; report changes in the physical, mental emotional and<br />
spiritual condition to the registered nurses.<br />
7. Provide day to day guidance to volunteers and bank staff, ensuring they adhere to <strong>Hospice</strong><br />
policy and procedures.<br />
8. Maintain a safe, tidy and organised working environment<br />
