Our Year in Review

We all have our chunks of time during the
year when workloads pile up. Mine falls
into place a few months before Canoecopia
hits, as I am officially the gal who puts this publication
together. As I rush to meet deadlines, organizing and
editing, I also focus on sitting back, slowing down, and
spending part of these busy Winter months pouring over
the past year – how fast it has gone, the adventures we’ve
had, our plans for the ‘Baga family in the future.
As I sit and look over the shop this past year, I’m
proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish. Despite
the country’s economic recession, our business is
thriving, staying afloat even amid tough times. You all
have continued to paddle and gear up for trips, and we’re
grateful to be the ones helping to get you on the water.
We’ll be unveiling our new and improved webstore
this spring, leading to an easier and more enjoyable online
shopping experience for you. A team of ‘Bagas is hard
at work on this web makeover, adding new features to
the site to make it easier to navigate and to search for
what you’re looking for. Our goal is for a user-friendly
webstore that makes it easy to get the gear you need so
you can get out on the water and have some fun.
If shopping in-person is more your style, we’re always
glad to welcome you into our shop at 220 West Broadway.
We’ve made some upgrades and innovative changes to the
sales floor, including a new whitewater section and a little
cabin to display all the camping gear. The small touches
in the shop and on the grounds reflect the bright ideas and
attention to detail that come from our dedicated staff.
Like every year, we welcome new seasonal staff to the
team in the springtime, and it looks like we’re gearing up
for an amazing Summer, with wonderful additions to the
Baga family.
And speaking of the ‘Baga family – we have
added three new dogs to the shop this year and as this
publication goes to press, I’ll be personally adding a baby
to our troops. (another will join us this Summer, though I
won’t be taking credit for that one!)
We hope you take some time to read through the
Gazette, to read what our ‘Baga family has to share with
you. Inside you’ll find the What’s New Gear Guide,
Reflection articles and all the Speakers that will be at
the show this year. We hope these pieces will inform,
entertain, and inspire you. If you’re coming to the show,
stroll the aisles, ask questions, and gear up for a season
of paddling. And please – if you see one of the ‘Bagas
walking the show – introduce yourself. We’d love to chat.
In the midst of your busy schedules and bustling lives,
we hope you have a chance to slow down and reflect, too
— to look back at the year past and the new one to come.
Whether you’ve been part of our family for decades or
you’re coming to Canoecopia for the first time this year,
we’d love to be a part of your 2010.
