“I learned how to use Powerpoint
and a few new skills at the football
training. It taught me how to get
along with people I’m not
usually with.”
Pedro, Year 6 student from Sacred Heart RC
Primary School in Islington
08 THE ARSENAL DOUBLE CLUB - EDUCATION WITH FOOTBALL
THE ICT MODULES ARE MAINLY OFFERED AS A HOLIDAY OR WEEKEND
DOUBLE CLUB COURSE TO HELP TEACH AND REINFORCE THE USE OF
VARIOUS COMPUTER PROGRAMMES.
These courses use activities and ideas from the literacy and numeracy modules
to enhance basic word processing skills as well as spelling, punctuation and
vocabulary. Activities also focus on the many functions that different
computer programmes provide such as basic presentations, drawing and
design. The modules draw from the excellent work that has been done for
years at the Study Support Centre (see page 34).
These courses are mostly run at
the Learning Centre at Emirates
Stadium and use the Arsenal
Museum as an excellent resource
to base work on. It is possible,
however, for schools doing an
after-school literacy/numeracy
Double Club to take activities they
have covered and transfer them to
ICT sessions at their school in a
couple of their usual sessions.
