Thank you for your interest in attending Beauty Schools of America ® . This section contains important information regarding admission to the school as an M-1 student. Please read all the information carefully. If you have any questions call your International Admissions Representative; they will be happy to assist you. GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS The International applicant who wishes to study at Beauty Schools of America ® (BSA) must have the following: • Possess the equivalent of a U.S. high school diploma • Be at least 16 years of age • Have all documents translated into English by a professional certified translator • Submit original documents, which will be returned to the applicant upon review by the International department • Complete all forms in their entirety - An incomplete form and/or missing documents will delay the admissions process • Have all forms typed - No handwritten forms will be accepted • Have a valid passport • All required documentation applicable REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING TO BSA 1. International Admission Representative Speak to an International Admission Representative regarding the programs offered at the school and the various locations that are available. 2. International Student Application Form (IN-100) Once you have selected the program of study and the campus you wish to attend, the next step is to complete form IN-100. The form must be submitted via e-mail to your International Admission Representative. 3. Applicant Declaration Form (IN-101) This form must be submitted with Form IN-100. 4. Application Fee International applicants are required to pay a one-time non-refundable $100.00 USD application fee. This fee should be paid via the BSA web site at: http://beautyshopping.bsa.edu/tuition-pay.php. SCHOOL ENROLLMENT AGREEMENT International applicants are required to read and sign the BSA Enrollment Agreement, which must be sent to the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) at www.bsa.edu, along with a copy of the M-1 Visa issued by the Embassy/Consulate. REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY FOR YOUR CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY (FORM I-20) Once you have submitted items 2, 3 and 4 above, the next step is to read and comply with ALL the requirements in the International Package; please follow the steps below: 1. BSA I-20 Application Form (IN-500) Submit the IN-500 Form typed and completed in its entirety. The accuracy of this form is extremely important as all the information will be used to produce your Certificate of Eligibility (I-20). a. Supplemental Dependent Form (IN-500A) - if applicable Submit this form only if you are adding your dependent spouse and/or child will be part of the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20). b. Acknowledgment of Responsibilities Notice (IN-500B) Please read form in its entirety. This form must be submitted. c. Student’s Role and Responsibilities and Compliance with M-1 Laws and Regulations (IN-500C). Please read this form in its entirety. This form must be submitted. 2. Down Payment for Program Chosen To find the required down payment fee refer to the Tuition and Fees for International Students, which is located in the International Package. Payment should be made via bank wire transfer, in person, or on the BSA website: www.bsa.edu 3. Official High School Diploma or College / University Transcripts Applicants must complete the International Student Educational History Form IN-501. All documents must be translated by a certified English translator. Official transcripts must indicate the name and address of the educational institution, subjects studied, grades earned and diploma/degree received. • High School Graduates ONLY - please submit your equivalent U.S. high school diploma and/or transcripts. High School transcripts must clearly indicate that you have successfully completed your secondary education. • College or University Students ONLY - please submit official transcript. 4. Official Vocational Transcripts - if applicable Applicants must complete the International Student Previous Education/Training History Form IN-501A, if studies are related to the cosmetology, barber, or spa industry. All documents must be translated by a certified English translator. The academic transcript must include the number of hours attempted and completed, services completed, and the name of the exams with the grades obtained. If submitting this form it will take an additional two (2) weeks from the time of the transcripts are received. 5. Official Bank Letter of Financial Resources (for you and/or sponsor) Documentary evidence of means of financial support must be provided to the Institution for admission purposes and issuance of the Certificate of Eligibility ( I-20). The official bank letter (refer to the sample provided) must: • Be written on bank letterhead and addressed to Beauty Schools of America ® to the address of the campus you plan to attend. • Indicate that you and/or your sponsor have a bank account with sufficient funds to cover your expenses while you study at Beauty Schools of America ® . • Reflect the required amount for the program chosen (please refer to the Tuition and Fees for International Students). • Be certified authentic (notarized) by a bank official, in English and with the equivalent of U.S. dollars (USD) noted in the letter. • Be dated no more than three (3) months from the program start date. • Include the holder account number. • Reference the name of the applicant applying for the Certificate of Eligibility (I-20); otherwise a Sponsor Statement Form (IN-503) will be required. • Clearly state the sponsor’s intent to use the funds for applicants’ expenses at Beauty Schools of America ® . • Ensure the signature and address of the sponsor is notarized with an official seal. • Have acceptable financial sources, which are savings, checking, money market accounts and certificates of deposit. 6. Living Expense Letter Applicants must provide a letter including the estimated monthly living expenses. Please use the Living Expense Letter Form (IN-502) which will include the following: • Housing (rent) and Utilities • Transportation • Food • Miscellaneous The average cost of living expenses (rent, food, transportation and any miscellaneous costs) is estimated at $2,000.00 per month. Applicants with dependents need to add an additional $500.00 per month, per dependent. To calculate the total amount required on your bank letter, please refer to the Estimated Costs of Living Expenses (Sample) Information Sheet. Remember that it is very important to demonstrate that you have adequate funds to study in the United States, as well as sufficient funds to pay for living expenses and medical, if needed. 7. U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Regulations BSA Form IN-504 Applicants must complete the DHS Regulations BSA Form (IN-504). The following are important regulations from DHS. All International M-1 applicants must: • Prove that the intention to enter the United States is temporary, attend an approved vocational program and engage in a full course of study. • Not work without proper authorization according to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations. • Not transfer schools or work without the authorization of USCIS. • A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date of at least six months beyond the applicant’s intended period of stay in the United States. • Keep a valid Certificate of Eligibility (I-20) for the duration of the program of study. • Notify USCIS within 10 days of an address change. • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Please refer to the Attendance and Satisfactory Academic Policy section of this catalog. • Adhere to all DHS regulations, otherwise he/she may be reported as being out of status. For additional information refer to www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis. 8. Statement of Non-Social Security Form IN-505 Applicants must complete the Statement of Non-Social Security Form (IN-505) and send it along with the aforementioned documents. This form notifies the school as to whether you have ever been issued a social security number in the United States. Please refer to section “Arrival to the U.S. (Item 7)” for more information regarding this subject. 9. Additional Documentation Additional suggested documentation is strongly recommended that you submit along with your documentation for the interview at the Embassy.
