OBJECTIVE<br />
To prepare students for the Florida State Board <strong>of</strong> Cosmetology Examination to become a licensed Cosmetologist.<br />

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION<br />
The Cosmetology program will prepare you to have knowledge <strong>of</strong> all facets in the beauty industry. Cosmetology is a dynamic career choice; fun, exciting<br />
and always changing. Cosmetology students are trained to become pr<strong>of</strong>icient in hair, makeup, skin and nails. Students work on practical assignments using<br />
mannequins and classmates while learning basic fundamentals. A gradual progression then proceeds to the customer, where services are conducted under the<br />
supervision <strong>of</strong> a licensed instructor. The curriculum is varied and comprehensive. You will be able to create various looks for special occasions such as runway<br />
fashion, weddings, special hair effects, up-dos, and many more. As a licensed Cosmetologist you will have the opportunity to work in salons, barbershops and<br />
spas within the area that best expresses your talent. If you feel you have an artistic flair and enjoy working with people, our Cosmetology program could be the<br />

CO100 SHAMPOOS AND RINSES<br />
(50 Hours/50 Services)<br />
Proper shampoo techniques and products; rinses for various hair types.<br />
CO101 HAIR STYLING<br />
(275 Hours/300 Services)<br />
Different methods <strong>of</strong> styling: Finger waving, roller setting, blow-drying techniques, thermal, thermal hair straightening and styling long hair.<br />
CO102 HAIR SHAPING<br />
(200 Hours/75 Services)<br />
Instruction in men’s, women’s and children’s haircuts and the various degrees <strong>of</strong> shapes.<br />
CO103 CHEMICAL WAVING, RELAXING AND STRAIGHTENING<br />
(150 Hours/65 Services)<br />
Permanent waving – identification <strong>of</strong> chemistry, products, and relationship to hair structure. Hair relaxer – purpose <strong>of</strong> relaxing, definition, product ingredients,<br />
sodium hydroxide relaxers, and steps to chemical relaxing.<br />
CO104 HAIR COLORING<br />
(150 Hours/45 Services)<br />
Principles <strong>of</strong> color theory and preparations including: Consultations, safety precautions for coloring, hydrogen peroxide activity, and correction <strong>of</strong> coloring problems.<br />
CO105 SKIN, FACIAL, MAKEUP AND HAIR REMOVAL<br />
(165 Hours/30 Services)<br />
Facial techniques and contraindications, skin theory, diseases and disorders <strong>of</strong> the skin, facials, hair removal methods and basic makeup application.<br />
CO106 MANICURE/PEDICURE AND NAIL EXTENSIONS<br />
(75 Hours/80 Services)<br />
Nail shape and disease identification; proper use <strong>of</strong> implements, cosmetics and materials; massage techniques; the different types <strong>of</strong> manicures; nail extensions,<br />
wraps and acrylics; safety; pedicure procedures.<br />
CO107 SANITATION AND STERILIZATION<br />
(51 Hours/60 Services)<br />
The methods <strong>of</strong> equipment sterilization, cleaning, health and safety in practical use and salon operations.<br />
CO108 SCALP TREATMENT AND HAIR CARE RINSES<br />
(30 Hours/45 Services)<br />
Basic care definitions and practices; performing scalp manipulations and techniques; recognizing scalp and hair disorders commonly seen in a salon.<br />
CO109 SALON BUSINESS<br />
(25 Hours)<br />
How to open, manage and operate a successful salon and the promotion <strong>of</strong> retail and services.<br />
CO110 FLORIDA LAWS<br />
(25 Hours)<br />
All rules as set forth by the Florida Department <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Regulation, Chapter 477, Cosmetologist Licensures and Operations.<br />
CO111 HIV /AIDS<br />
(4 Hours)<br />
Education on the transmission, control, treatment and prevention <strong>of</strong> HIV and AIDS; discussion <strong>of</strong> attitudes and behavior in dealing with individuals who may have<br />
the virus or syndrome; explanation <strong>of</strong> Board requirements regarding license renewal and completion <strong>of</strong> the Board approved education course on HIV and AIDS.<br />
