Infection and disease control for the Makeup Artist and Skin Care Specialist; the methods <strong>of</strong> equipment sterilization, cleaning, health and safety in practical use<br />

– as per the Department <strong>of</strong> Business and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Regulation (DBPR), safety procedures are part <strong>of</strong> the on-going curriculum throughout all specified subject<br />

areas.<br />

SP113 THEORY OF DISEASES AND DISORDERS OF THE SKIN<br />

(85 Hours)<br />

Analyze skin diseases and disorders; identify the various skin conditions that will affect the process <strong>of</strong> performing and determining types <strong>of</strong> facials.<br />

SP114 FACIAL TECHNIQUES AND CONTRAINDICATIONS<br />

(86 Hours/45 Services)<br />

Performing facials manually and mechanically, including masks, packs or treatments which must be applied on a variety <strong>of</strong> skin types including normal, oily, dry,<br />

combination, problem and mature, as well as its contraindications.<br />

SP115 HAIR REMOVAL<br />

(25 Hours/20 Services)<br />

The morphology <strong>of</strong> hair and its growth stages, different hair removal methods and the conditions that contraindicates hair removal.<br />

SP116 BASICS OF ELECTRICITY AND MACHINES<br />

(15 Hours/5 Services)<br />

Knowledge <strong>of</strong> the nature <strong>of</strong> electricity, types <strong>of</strong> electric current, electrotherapy and their uses, facial machines and how to use them safely.<br />

SP117 PRODUCT CHEMISTRY<br />

(8 Hours)<br />

How the various chemistry and its branches, acids, alkaline, and P.H., affect product chemistry components; how to safely use a variety <strong>of</strong> products.<br />

SP118 MAKEUP, EYELASHES AND EYEBROWS<br />

(50 Hours/30 Services)<br />

Basic makeup application to transition from a day to night look; variation <strong>of</strong> eyelash techniques including strip, individual and semi-permanent lashes; eyebrow<br />

and eyelash tinting techniques and procedures.<br />

SP119 FLORIDA LAWS<br />

(5 Hours)<br />

All rules as set forth by the Florida Department <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Regulation, Chapter 477, Cosmetologist Licensures and Operations.<br />

SP120 HIV/AIDS<br />

(4 Hours)<br />

Education on the transmission, control, treatment and prevention <strong>of</strong> HIV and AIDS; discussion <strong>of</strong> attitudes and behavior in dealing with individuals who may have<br />

the virus or syndrome; explanation <strong>of</strong> Board requirements regarding license renewal and completion <strong>of</strong> the Board approved education course on HIV and AIDS.<br />

All hours and services are those required by the Florida Department <strong>of</strong> Business and Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Regulation (DBPR) and the Florida Department<br />

<strong>of</strong> Health (DOH).<br />

Note: All programs are taught in a cycle. Students are able to start at any point <strong>of</strong> the cycle and still fulfill all program requirements.<br />

EQUIPMENT / MATERIALS<br />

Students will receive a uniform, an equipment bag, and a makeup, skincare and massage kit with all the necessary instruments and materials to perform the<br />

required services.<br />

GRADUATION<br />

After a student completes 1,050 hours, services, exams and fulfills all financial obligations to the school, a diploma will be awarded.<br />
