PHARMACY (APOTHEEK)
In the Netherlands it is a good idea to register with a pharmacy in the same way as with a family
doctor / GP or dentist. Choose one that is convenient for you.
During week days pharmacies are open from 08:30 till 18:00. Please find attached a list of
Maastricht pharmacies. In case of emergencies, please note that there is always a pharmacy
on call. Straver pharmacy is a 24 hour pharmacy on Akersteenweg 88, close to UWC
Maastricht.
Calpol, a British brand of children's medicine, is not available in the Netherlands. However,
there are Dutch alternatives. Nurofen for Children is not available in the Netherlands either but
can be purchased at Belgian pharmacies!
PHOTOCOPY SERVICE (KOPIEER/COPY SERVICE)
Libraries and supermarkets have photo copiers available to make copies. However, if you
require multiple copies, it is best to go to a copy service. Maastricht has several of these
copy centres. Yellow Pages and the Maastricht City Guide (Gemeentegids) list photocopy
services under “copy- en printservice”.
PHOTOGRAPHER (FOTOGRAAF)

The school photographer comes to school once a year to make class, individual and sibling
pictures. Also, UWC mum, Svetlana Kirtland, is a familiar face at school and involved in the
Year Book. She makes pictures of school events all through the year and is a photographer.

PHYSIOTHERAPIST (PHYSIOTHERAPEUT)
Consult your doctor and you may then be referred to a physiotherapist.
PICK YOUR OWN PYO (ZELFPLUK)
There are a few farms in the Maastricht area where you can go for “pick your own” fruit:
• Aardbeienland (Strawberry Land), Kreuzelweg 3, 5961 NM Horst (just north of Venlo)
• Blauwe bessen (blueberry farm), Weg naar As 121, 3670 Meeuwen-Gruitrode, Begium
• Blue Berrie Hill, Genenberg 28a, 5872 AL Broekhuizen
• Boomkwekerij Frijns (apples and pears), Groot Welsden 30, 6269 EV Margraten. This
fruit farm opens its door to the public during National Apple Pick Day which yearly takes
place on a Saturday in September.
• Jacobs Fruit, Heide 114, 3800 Sint Truiden, Belgium. Please check web for details on
which weekends they are open for apple en cherry picking.
