Centennial of Flight event at
Shearwater Aviation Museum
On Friday, February 27, 2009, the
Shearwater Aviation Museum will host
a Centennial of Flight celebration at the
museum. Please join us from 11 a.m. to
12:30 p.m. for cake and coffee to mark
the 100th anniversary of the flight of the
Silver Dart, the first powered aircraft to
fly in Canada.

From July 16 to 20, the Halifax and
Dartmouth waterfronts will come alive
to celebrate the international gathering
of Tall Ships.
We are anticipating a need for 1,000+
volunteers in Halifax and Dartmouth to
ensure we deliver another world-class
event in true Maritime style.

Ships Nova Scotia 2009 needs volunteers
for a variety of tasks during the
festival activities including: security,
shipside docking crew, food services,
crew services, boarding pass sales,
boarding pass checkers, survey crew,
site crew, information guides, program

Eco-Endurance Challenge 2009
The Eco-Endurance Challenge takes
place on April 25 and 26, 2009, in Halifax,
Nova Scotia. This is a physically and
mentally demanding map and compass
eco-adventure covering 200 square km of
thick forests, extremely wet bogs, fast
flowing streams and miles of backwoods
trails. The 2009 Registration opens January
1, 2009. Categories are: Challenge
I—Search and Rescue; Challenge II—
Public Competitive; Challenge III—
Recreational; and Challenge IV—Armed

Events at the Nova Scotia
Museum of Natural History
Ice Age Mammals! A six-meter lifesize
cast of a mastodon greets visitors to
the Ice Age Mammals exhibit, which runs
from February 1 to May 31. This visiting
exhibition focuses on ice age mammals
and the factors that led to their extinction.
See videos and interactive stations featuring
paleontologists who share their
scientific discovery of extinct species and
the challenges of arctic excavation.
This will be presented in English and
in French.
Sinking of the former
HMCS Annapolis
As plans progress for the sinking of
the former HMCS Annapolis (DDH
265), I am contacting as many former
shipmates as I can to let them know
about this project. Approximately 100
former Annapolis crewmembers from
across the country have expressed an
interest in coming to Vancouver this
summer (July/August 2009) to participate
