Restoration of Hampden Bridge at Kangaroo Valley
The Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) has started
a major restoration project on Hampden Bridge on
Moss Vale Road at Kangaroo Valley.
This follows months of working closely with the
community during the planning stages to minimise
the impact of the work. Thank you for your
feedback!
Community shuttle bus service
To help minimise disruption and maintain
connectivity in the local community during the
planned evening closures, the RTA will provide
temporary shuttle bus services on either side of
Hampden Bridge. This service will run on a
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night during
the midweek evening closures.
These services will operate from temporary bus
stops and to a detailed timetable. The timetable
details and bus stop locations are shown on the
opposite page (p 29).
Moss Vale side
Village side
Between 6pm and midnight residents wishing to
travel from the Moss Vale side of Hampden Bridge
to the Kangaroo Valley village side will be able to:
1) Park their vehicles in the Jing Jo Café carpark.
2) Walk across Hampden Bridge under the
guidance of RTA staff or traffic control contractors.
3) Get on a 19 seat mini-bus at a signposted
temporary bus stop outside the Kangaroo Valley
Tourist Park.
4) Be transported to their destination within
Kangaroo Valley.
Village side
Moss Vale side
Between 6pm and midnight residents wishing to
travel from the village side of Hampden Bridge to
the Moss Vale side will be able to:
1) Park their vehicles in the carpark adjacent to the
bridge.
2) Walk across Hampden Bridge under the
guidance of RTA staff or traffic control contractors.
3) Get on a 19 seat mini-bus at a signposted
temporary bus stop near the Pioneer Village.
4) Be transported to their destination within
Kangaroo Valley.
Each service will be equipped with one child
restraint suitable for a child aged from six months to
four years.
Project background
Preliminary work has been underway since January
2011 with daytime ‘stop/slow’ traffic conditions in
place each Monday to Friday. The preliminary work
will continue until the major work starts in May.
The major work is due to start on
Monday 9 May 2011.
Hampden Bridge will remain open for the
majority of the work. Closures are limited to
midweek evenings only from 6pm to midnight,
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The major work will be completed in two stages.
Stage one runs from Monday 9 May until Friday 24
June. Should there be wet weather or unexpected
delays this stage would extend by one week to
Friday 1 July 2011.
The work will then break for the school holidays.
Stage two runs from Monday 25 July until Friday 9
September 2011. Should there be wet weather or
unexpected delays this stage would extend by two
weeks to Friday 23 September 2011.
During these periods work on the bridge will be
carried out from Monday to Friday between 7am
and 6pm, with work continuing into the night on
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays when
Hampden Bridge will be closed to traffic between
6pm and midnight.
