Yes, Shearwater has a new Masters Swim team called the CF Atlantic Swim Team (CFAST) and the members are constantly in pursuit of enthusiastic, water-loving, water-seeking missiles to join their team. The team currently consists of swimmers ranging from beginners all the way up to CISM level athletes and triathletes. Brian Beckwith, the CFAST coach, has been aninvaluable asset to the team; he is able to coach at whichever level is necessary for each person, due to his extensive background in swimming and coaching. Brian’s main goal for CFAST is to coach and guide swimmers of all levels to improve existing skill sets, teach new skill sets, and do whatever is necessary to give the CFAST team acompetitive edge. The team’s long-term goal, establishedby swim team organizers MS Sean O’Brien and LS David Pain, is andalways will be to senda team to nationals each year and of course come home with too many medals to count. As for nationals this year, which are to be held in Nanaimo, BC in late May, lack of funding has already reduced the number of CF swimmers who will be attending; however, the hope is that there will still be a national championship. In the event that clawbacks prevent a national swimming championship from occurring this year or years to come,a contingency plan may need to be developed for an Atlantic Regional Swimming Championship. Considering that the CFAST team is relatively new (September 2009) and still wishing to increase its numbers, the focus for the team is currently onits short-termgoals. staff, and his pleasurein seeing soldiers demonstrating their individual skill at arms; acore military skill for which every member of the CF is trained.
