Experience Survey from November
30 to December 11, 2009.
You told us that for the most part
we are doing a great job in the services
we deliver to you, our patients.
However there were a few
areas that you felt we could improve
upon.
Patient Parking – This is a hot
topic and we know it. You will be
pleased that we have increased the
number of patient parking spots in
front of both the Stad Clinicand the
Dockyard Clinic. Almost the entire
front parking lot is being devoted
solely to our patients. We believe
this will alleviate your parking
frustrations.
Length of time to get an appointment
in your CDU – Our
model of careis based on us having
our uniformed care providers inhouse
approximately 50 per cent of
the time. In the past couple of years,

The Compensation Web Application
(CWA) is a new tool available
to DND employees to access
information about their pay and
benefits online. All employees
with a MCAN user account can
utilize this tool and it can be accessed
through the DND Intranet
site @ http://halifax.mil.ca.
Pay
The CWA provides employees
with the ability to view their pay
stubs and T4s electronically. You
can even choose to only receive
your pay stub electronically,
thereby reducing paper. Employees
can use the tool to calculate
gross to net pay estimates for
regular pay changes such as acting,
promotion, revisions and
statutory increments. You can also
commence/ amend/stop voluntary
deductions such as Canada Savings
Bonds and additional income
tax. The application does not
allow employees to make modifications
to mandatory deductions.
Pension
Employees no longer have to
wait for their pension and benefits
statement to arrive; it is always
accessible to view through the
CWA. There is also the option to
calculate the cost of elective service
via the Service Buyback
Estimator and to calculate pension
estimates. Please note however,
that these are just estimates. It is
important to make an appointment
to meet with your Compensation
Advisor to get accurate figures
when you are planning for your
retirement.
Important: There are two links
for each calculator. You must go
to the calculators listed under
Personal Tools (have a key next to
them) to get information specific
to your account. It will automatically
populate your information
and thereby provide more realistic
estimates. If you use the calculators
listed under Basic Tools, you
will be prompted to provide more
information as these are simply
generating hypothetical information.
To set up an account in CWA,
you will require the following
information:
PRI number (on your cheque
stub or DND ID card)
Pension number (on your Pension
and Benefits statement or call
Joanne Richard, Compensation
Advisor, @ 721-1144)
Total deductions from last
regular pay cheque (on your pay
stub)
Government email address
Date of birth
When you have all this information,
go to the MARLANT
website at http://halifax.mil.ca
and click on CHRSC(A) (located
in the Common Links at the bottom
of the page). Then click on
Compensation (in menu on right
side of web page). Click on the
link to the Compensation Web
Application: http://www.tpsgcpwgsc.gc.ca/remuneration-compensation/txt/index-eng.html.
From here, follow the directions
for New Users, in which you will
create an online profile.
Once you have created your
user name and password, you will
be able to access this site at your
convenience. To help you locate
the site in the future, you may
want to save it in your favourites.
Please note that the CWA can
only be accessed from computers
on the DWAN and therefore not
accessible from your home computer.

the CWA, please contact your
Compensation Advisor.

physician’s assistants in the Clinic.
It has been difficult to backfill
these positions,but we can tell you
that we are monitoring wait times
and working to change scheduling
practices to increase efficiencies
and decrease wait times.

available 24hrs per day, 7 days per
week. You will access a voicemail
message and can let us know what
you think. You can also call the

welcome your feedback. We
have included this information on
our revamped Patient Website, as
well as in our orientation package
for newly posted in members. You
may even want to tell us what you
think about our new Patient Website
which can be accessedby clicking
on the DIN home page, MAR-
LANT A – Z information index,
Select Units/Links; and scroll
down until you find us under Medical
Unit Halifax.

outside of CF HSvcs C(A) hours -
This is now displayed on our Patient
Website. We would however
like to remind you that if at any
time you feel you may be having a
medical emergency, please call 911
or report to your nearest emergency
department. There is also the CF
Health Information Line 1-877-
MED-DENT (1-877-633-3368)
that you can call 24hrs aday/7 days
per week. This line is designed to
provide CF members with access to
health care advice, general health
information, and improving continuity
of care when the Clinic is
closed.
Eyeglasses – At the present time
we are making changes based on
your feedback, which you will notice
the next time you visit. Thereis
also a PublicWorks tendering process
underway to determine a service
provider for the future provision
of eye glasses in the CF.

on what we are doing to make
your visit to the CF HSvcs C (A)
the best it can be. Feel free to drop

et ready for a five-day-long
Gmusical treat, hostedas part of
the International Fleet Review
(IFR) festivities. A number of
bands will play at Alexander
Keith’s International Pub in Centennial
Village from June 26 to July
1,and the concerts will be available
only to the DND community.
“I come from a Navy family
background so I can tell you that
I’m very excited about playing at
the International Fleet Review,”
said Bruce Nelson, guitarist for
Blueberry Grunt, one of the many
bands playing at the IFR concerts.
Nelson, son of CWO (ret’d) Chuck
Nelson, highlighted anumber of
the band’s successes, including
playing the Jesus Jones’ song Right
Here Right Now for Tourism Nova
Scotia, and laughedabout the number
of blueberry festivals the band
has played for, largely thanks to the
band’s name. “Some of the audience
members actually thought it
meant the food—blueberry grunt!”
Labelledas a pop-rock band with a
celtic twist, Blueberry Grunt, according
to Nelson, is very excited
to play for the IFR.
Jonathan Goud, bass player for
Telfer, said of the IFR: “It’s a great
cause for celebration. We hope to
throw a party for people and show
them a good time.” Telfer is relatively
new to the Halifax music
scene. Playing every Thursday at
the Carleton on Argyle St., and
having recorded their debut album
at the Sonic Temple last year, the
high energy, punk rock band has recently
established themselves as a
popular musical group in Halifax.
In a more solemn tone, Goud recognized
that while the concert is sure
to be fun, “for any military event,
it’s good to remember the people
you work with and the people who
are away.”
