The Virtual Centre for Innovative Learning Technologies
(VCILT) is responsible for providing and developing on-line
web-based education and telelearning at the university and
throughout the country. VCILT supports academics with technology,
pedagogical and management tools for the conception,
multimedia presentations and networking of their contents and
activities.
The creation of the VCILT formed part of the Strategic Objectives
of the UoM Stategic Plan, whose objectives read as follows:
To increase student intake
To enhance distance learning, develop flexible learning
and experiment with educational delivery systems
To develop institutional course articulation arrangements
To provide continuing education and lifelong learning

This top-up programme targets holders of a Diploma in Education
and provides them with an accelerated route to earning
an innovative educational technology degree. It prepares
educators and trainers from a variety of professional
backgrounds. Participants learn how to design effective
curriculum using existing learning theories and contemporary
instructional design models. They will collaboratively engage
in planning and designing both in-person and online courses
within innovative pedagogical design frameworks. Students
completing this programme have the option to go for the MSc
by Research in Educational Technology or the internationally
apprised taught MSc in Educational Technologies of the
University of Mauritius.

The principal objective of this Postgraduate Programme is
to train professionnals, who after a minimum of two years
of studies and academic research, will be able to master the
engineering of e-learning content development, communication
and pedagogical multimedia to benefit companies
and public administrations. This means the study of
Internet and multimedia technology, graphic design, pedagogical
engineering methods and communication strategies
as well as the market of services and the use of specific
e-learning applications, platforms and tools.
The intention is to create special links with businesses,
making it possible to offer them specific support for
retraining of their staff while developing promising niches
of activity. Moreover, the "practical" approach chosen as a
teaching model, is intended to fill the skills deficit, as
expressed by professionals.
