ESD Affiliate Council Gold Award Banquet FEBRUARY 20, 2013 Join us at the Dearborn Inn in Dearborn for a unique event to pay tribute to the leaders of Michigan’s workforce: its engineers and scientific professionals. Assembled in one room, more than 300 professionals representing 92 ESD Affiliated Technical Societies will come together to recognize outstanding members for contributions to the betterment of the future and for leaving their mark on their respective industries. Sponsored by The Engineering Society of Detroit and its Affiliate Council, the event will feature this year’s Gold Award winner, as well as society award winners. Engineers will also be invited to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony and get their engineers’ rings. The event will kickoff with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards ceremony. It will also feature live entertainment and a silent auction. Cost is $60 per person prior to February 10 ($70 after); $550 for a table of 10 prior to February 10 ($600 after); and $20 to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony (optional). To register or for more information, visit www.esd.org or call 248-353-0735. 23rd Annual Solid Waste Technical Conference APRIL 17, 2013 In its 23rd year, The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and the Michigan Waste Industries Association (MWIA) Annual Solid Waste Technical Conference will take place on April 17, 2013, at the Kellogg Hotel & Conference Center in East Lansing, Mich. The conference will feature expert speakers and an important list of relevant topics, including: •• Future of solid waste management in the U.S. •• Solid waste policy issues •• New technologies •• Regulatory updates Industry professionals shouldn’t miss this unique opportunity to: •• Network with topic local specialists and professionals in the field •• Hear from leaders in the industry about the latest technology and regulatory information •• Find out about emerging technologies and regulatory changes impacting the solid waste industry •• Learn from presentations and case studies on solid waste management issues •• Gain information from presentations addressing current issues and changes impacting the waste industry The cost to attend the conference is $175 MWIA/ ESD members; $200 nonmembers; $50 students; $150 government. ESD UPCOMING EVENTS Third Thursday Networking Events THIRD THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH Take advantage of this opportunity to network with engineers and business leaders from throughout Southeast Michigan. We meet from 4–6 p.m. on the third Thursday of every month at various restaurants in Southfield. Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and there will be a cash bar. This is a free event. Toastmasters Club at ESD EVERY FIRST AND THIRD WEDNESDAY Join the ESD Toastmasters Club today to improve your communication skills and open doors in your personal and professional life. Instead of taking classes or spending money on costly seminars, you’ll learn in a self-paced atmosphere of fun and fellowship. For $6 a month, the Toastmasters Club will give you the opportunity to: •• Develop better speaking and presentation skills. •• Learn to think quickly and clearly on your feet. •• Build strong leadership abilities.
