AGGIES, 6-THIEF RIVER FALLS, 6
The final game of the season was played with the Thief River Falls eleven
and offered as much excitement as possible in one game. The Thief River aggregation
came to the Aggie campus with one of the best records in the state and
with the strongest team in the history of the school. They had not been defeated
during the 1929 season and had only one tie game to mar a perfect
record.
Coach Christgau had been working his team hard for the game and his
men were primed for a real struggle. The two teams battled on even terms in
the first three periods but early in the fourth quarter the Thief River eleven
pushed over a touchdown. The try for point was wide. After receiving the
ball on a kickoff the Aggies fought their way to their opponent’s 40-yard line
where a pass was good for 20 yards. Chauncey Johnson skirted the end for
twelve yards and Captain Martin Odland carried the ball to the four-yard line.
On the next play there was no gain and then Captain Odland plunged over for
an Aggie touchdown, tying the score. The try for point was wide and the
game ended in a tie. Captain Martin Odland was easily the star of the game
and closed his Aggie football career brilliantly.
