Kids come out to play
On the last day of Fantasy Fest — Sunday,
Oct. 28 — children play at an event just for
them. It’s the 31st anniversary of Children’s
Day. Held at Bayview Park, Children’s Day is
crammed with games, contests, food, rides
and — above all else — fun. Every booth is
run by a charity organization
or youth group selling a
game or food and they
keep the proceeds to
fund their cause.
In addition to the
booths, Children’s Day will
feature “rides” such as the
gyrojumper, the Titanic slide and the
rock wall. Keys Energy will bring out

their cherry pickers and take people up
for a panoramic view of the park.
The stage will be a home to a rotating showcase of stars
including cheerleaders, local student choirs, bands and
dancers. The costume contest, sponsored by First State
Bank, starts at about 12:30 p.m.

the fat lady sings
The Fat Lady Sings Tea Dance party is the official close
of Fantasy Fest 2012. It kicks off Sunday, October
28, 2012 at 4 p.m. at La Te Da and is swamped
by locals and visitors alike, equal in their
unwillingness to let all the fun be done.
“It’s a mad, mad, mad house,” said Jean Claude
Gosselin. “And a ton of fun.”
As usual, Junior will be spinning the tunes and
it’s a paltry $5 admission.
Among the throng will be the designated “fat lady,” ready to

accept the adulation of her fans. Who? Well, guests fueled with
a bass beat and distilled spirits will be the final judges on that
score.
