PRESIDENT’S COLUMN 

This will be an unusually short column, as I am sitting at 

our kitchen table in Rose City on 

vacation without a computer. I 

will have to ask the editors to 

type this for me, and I know that 

won’t make them happy. 

Last Saturday we had our annual 

“Beef Cookout” and what a nice 

turn out we had too. The Beef 

party is like Multi-Lakes lets me 

throw a bash for 150 of my 

friends, with fresh beef slow 

roasted over a cherry wood open 

fire, adult beverages, music and dancing and about all the 

fun that can be had. I really enjoyed watching that many 

members and guests let loose and have a good time. 

Don’t forget August 25 th & 26 th , we all need to pitch in and 

help both at the ALL DAY Workbee on Saturday to set up 

and prepare for Good Old Days on Sunday, then we will 

need ALL of our members, old members and new 

members to work together to make this event a success. 

Good Old Days is the largest single project we have 

where the whole world is invited to our club for a day of 

fun, so we need to work extra hard to make the whole club 

look like a place people would want to belong to. 

Thanks to all of you, the members, who make Multi-Lakes 

work as well as it does.

Chairmen’s Meeting Minutes – August 1 st 2007 

Sam Mullins, Vice president opened the meeting with the 

Pledges 

Motion: To accept the reserved dates, Cal Kittinger, 2 nd 

Bill Lonsberry. Motion: Approved, 

Bass Pro shopping spree tickets are now on sale 1 st Prize 

is a $1,000.00 tickets are $5.00. “Lets sell them all”. I am 

also looking into a wild boar hunt for a Raffle more to 

come later, Gun A week ticket are now on sale, cost 

$25.00. 

Dave Fisher: Treasurer reported that we are close to 

getting our Charity status resolved. Dave indicated he has 

bought his Good Old Days tickets and given them to 

friends and neighbors, GOOD IDEA! Dave said that we 

now have a small profit for the year. At the Past president 

meeting various ideas were discussed for getting some of 

our past members back into the fold by sending them a 

letter saying we want them to come back etc. 

Barry Anderson - Club Manager reported that Gary 

Chase due to an over whelming workload would not be 

able to Chair Good Old Days next year. Gary is looking for 

someone to pick up the torch, he will assist in any way he 

can to make it a smooth transition 

Rich LaFave: Can Do/Memorials ask if he could have a 

50/50 raffle on meeting night for the memorial fund. 

Please help out. 

Dave Mercieca: Muzzle loader Rendezvous thanked all 

the members that helped make their year successful. 

Chris Peltier: Bar Chair stated that he is looking for help 

at the bar, fish fries, meeting nights, and other special 

events, if you can help give Chris a call. 

Don Priebe: Meeting night raffle reported that the meeting 

night raffle has been doing very well and almost all tickets 

are being sold. 

Eric manning: Outdoor Range/Board thanked Don 

Priebe, Jay Leach, Jerred Leach Brian Schmitz and every 

one else that helped with the concrete at the outdoor 

range. 

Bill Lonsberry: Outdoor Range/Board reported that the 

law enforcement training/shooting has been going very 

well and it seems they are picking up new agencies every 

month. He also thanked everyone that helped with the 

concrete and that the gates will be back up soon. 

Rich Johnson: Conservation Education reported that he 

is looking into other camps for the kids due to the increase 

in MUCC costs, more to come later. 

Cal Kittinger: F.N.R.A. Dinner/Editor asked that you give 

the Editor’s 2 months lead time on your event information; 

that way they won’t be over before most of the members 

get their Multi-Laker. The July Women on Target 

clinic/camp went very well, they seem to be getting bigger 

every time. Also do not forget the N.R.A. Dinner on 

September 13 th get your tickets soon. 

Dave Leonard: Multi-Lake Editor also said you can E-mail 

your event information to him as well. 

New Business: Dave Fisher stated that a company in 

Michigan is going to be allowed to dump mercury into 

Lake Michigan!! (All members should contact their elected 

officials and let them know how they feel about this). 

Old business: Sam gave the chairmen Club tri-fold flyers 

for their review, discussion followed.

Board of Directors Meeting Minutes – August 8 th 2007 

Chairman Dan St. Aubin called the meeting to order at 

7:30 PM. Dan led the Board in the Pledge of Allegiance 

and the Conservation Pledge. 

Officers present: Tony Katopodis, Matt Philippart, 

Jim Ashcraft, Dave Fisher and Sam Mullins. Directors 

present: Dan St. Aubin, Eric Manning, Bill Lonsberry, 

George Rhodes, Ron Pennell, Jon Lash and Andy 

Willetts. Barry Anderson, Club Manager. Interested 

members present: Don Preibe, Rich LaFave, Dan Peltier 

and Ron Cochran. 

MINUTES: 

Rec. Sec. Matt Philippart read the July Board minutes. 

Without Opposition – Minutes were approved. 

PRESIDENT’s REPORT: 

Tony Katopodis/Matt Philippart moved to add Bill 

Breneke as Chairman -Combat Pistol, and Mark Geiger 

Chairman-Slingshot. WITHOUT OBJECTION 

Tony Katopodis/Eric Manning moved to approve up to 

$500 to print the proposed Brochure. WITHOUT 

OBJECTION 

Pete Cesearo and crew are working hard to reestablish 

Skeet &Trap and are now open Tues, Thurs. and 

Sundays. 

Sept. 29 is the Small Town Low Down Bike Show! 

VICE PRESIDENT’s REPORT: 

Bill Lonsberry/George Rhodes moved to accept the 

proposed dates as presented. WITHOUT OPPOSITION 

Sam then noted the following info/updates for the Board: 

Bingo, Country Breakfast and Fish fry’s are going well; 

BINGO needs helpers; Beef Cookout Aug. 11; GUN-A- 

WEEK 2008 tickets now on sale; Editors ask that all 

activities be submitted two months in advance for Multi- 

Laker. Strategic Planning Committee is restarting. 

RECORDING SECRETARY’s REPORT: 

Matt read a thank you note from Dylan Willett for MUCC 

camp. Matt Philippart / Tony Katopodis moved to print 

Dylan’s letter in the Multi-Laker. WITHOUT OBJECTION 

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY’s REPORT: 

Jim Ashcraft noted DUES are past due. 210 Suspended 

members. New Member Meeting saw 23 of 52 applicants. 

Thanks to all that helped. 

TREASURER’s REPORT: 

Matt Philippart/Jon Lash moved to receive and file the 

June Treasurer’s report. WITHOUT OBJECTION. 

Tony Katopodis/Andy Willetts moved to receive and file 

the July Treasurer’s report. WITHOUT OBJECTION 

Dave then noted 3 of 5 Finance Committee members 

have dropped out, and he is looking for replacements; IRS 

has asked our attorney to make small tweaks to our 

Articles of Incorporation to finalize our newer tax status; 

asked Board to reconsider proposals for recruitment for 

next meeting for discussion. 

MANAGER’s REPORT: 

Barry discussed various projects around the Club, and 

noted 7 rentals were booked. Barry also welcomed 

Brenda Fry as a new bartender and noted a Part-time 

position is also available. 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: 

Outdoor Range ramp is complete. Bill Lonsberry thanked 

Don Preibe and crew. Concealed Carry/Defensive Pistol 

class is on, and needs participants. ODR#2 – 

proposals/quotes were submitted to Finance Committee. 

NEW BUSINESS: 

Tony noted we are getting additional quotes for our spring 

field mining. 

George Rhodes agreed to support MLCA’s Bass Pro 

Classic participation. 

Tony Katopodis/Ron Pennell moved to excuse Dave 

Stabley and Tony Serrano. WITHOUT OBJECTION 

Bill Lonsberry/Eric Manning moved to allow CenterMass 

Inc. to shoot between 9am and 10pm Oct. 2-5. WITHOUT 

OBJECTION. 

Jim Ashcraft thanked Dwight Luther and Bob Anderson 

for their valuable help and assistance with the platform 

construction. 

Andy Willetts/George Rhodes moved to adjourn the

President Tony Katopodis called the meeting to 

order at 8:03 PM. Tony led the members in the Pledge of

Tony acknowledged the Past Presidents in 

attendance; Dave Fisher, Skip Worden, Jim Kirn, Dan St. 

Aubin and gave a warm welcome to everyone’s Sons! 

CHAPLAINS REPORT: 

Skip Worden regretfully noted the passing of the following: 

Paul Stolar’s Mother Mildred and William Floto Sr. Skip 

asked for everyone’s prayers and a moment of silence. 

Skip then thanked the crews at the Car Show 

events! Come on out and enjoy the cars and volunteer to 

help! 

Tony then noted the Nominating Committee is 

active again, and nominations can be turned into Fred 

Coyle. 

John LaFave/Cal Kittinger moved to accept the July 

General Membership Meeting minutes, as printed in the 

Multi-Laker. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

and July Treasurers Report, as printed in the Multi-Laker.

Bike show will be held here, and volunteers are being 

sought. 

TREASURERS REPORT 

Dave thanked Cal and the NRA for the $7500 grant for 

JR’s & Women; the Club had a $22,000 profit thru June; 

2008 Gun-A-Week tickets are on sale; Finance 

Committee needs volunteers; The bar is an important 

place at the Club, and we all need to watch our language 

and actions around visitors, children, etc..

Matt noted Dylan Willetts thank you for MUCC Camp. 

Dylan’s note will be printed in the Multi-Laker. 

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY 

Jeff Telford (Jim Ashcraft was vacationing) noted there are 

186 Suspended members, and DUES are due for 

EVERYONE with a $25 LATE FEE. We have 559 of 1000 

members. 

EARLY DRAW 

Gary Boyd lost out on $130. Next month the prize 

grows to $140, plus $25 for wearing the name tag. 

VICE PRESIDENTS REPORT 

Sam Mullins then noted the following for members; 

Fish Fry and Country Breakfasts are doing well; and lastly, 

please donate to Can-Do, to help those less fortunate. 

Sam then introduced the following speakers:

3 rd event was sold out, but a Nov. 4 th event was added.

Mike Borst – JR Shotgun Mike noted the JR’s shoot the 

1, 2 and 4 th Wed of each month. Mike also asked for 

someone to assist and attend the Healing Our Waters

Bill Brenneke – Combat Pistol –Noted that semi-autos 

will be allowed. More info to come. 

Adam Rod – Breast Cancer Walk- seeking donations. 

Kirt Cooke- Blood Drive; Hunters Ed – Kirt noted we 

had 49 pints donated Sunday and 24 signed up as organ 

donors. Special thanks to Frank Speckle. 

Cal Kittinger - Cal noted the Friends of the NRA Dinner is 

Sept. 13; Women On Target Sept. 29. GET YOUR MULTI- 

LAKER COPY IN EARLY. 

Jeff Whitacre – Running Deer – noted a new moving 

target system will be used for a new event. TBD. 

Ed Rapin – Wild game Dinner – noted he is taking 

donations and the freezers are empty. 

Bill Lonsberry – ODR Bill thanked the RO’s for their 

efforts; thanked Don Preibe and Jason and Jerry Leech 

for the new ramp; ODR needs seamless gutters, so if 

anyone can help Sight-in days start the last weekends in 

Oct.; Need help for Good Old Days; Bill introduced Jeff

Notice to all Chairperson’s 

1. We, the editors would like to establish a 

photo database of all active Chairs; that 

way when we run an article for your 

committee we can include your photo. 

Please plan on attending the October 

chairpersons meeting, the 1 st Wednesday of 

the month. If you can show up before 8 

pm that would help. We will make it quick 

and as painless as possible. The routine 

will be: sit down, smile, click, next. 

2. Very important: When submitting articles 

for publication, please remember that most 

members do not receive their Multi-Laker 

much before mid-month. In the future we 

will not run original requests of copy, for 

events taking place during the first 15 days 

of the month. Get the information to us for 

the issue the month before the event, and 

we will run it in both months.

The Outdoor Range (ODR): Open to all members and 

guests of participating members. 

Open Shooting: 

Saturdays – 3:00pm – 6:00pm (April thru November) 

Saturdays ~ Noon – 3:00pm (Dec., Jan., Feb., Mar.) 

Sundays - Noon to 3:00 pm. 

Closed on holidays & for special events 

Note: Range will be open during INCLEMENT weather for 

one hour, afterwards at the R.O.’s discretion. A Qualified 

Range Officer will be present, and all shooters are 

welcome. 

Scheduled Shooting: Monday thru Friday – 

10:00 am to Dusk when; No Special Event is scheduled 

and a Qualified Range Officer is Present. Note: Two 

persons, of whom, one R.O. must be present to shoot. 

Please check R.O. Schedule, MLCA Monthly Calendar, or 

call the Manager for specific dates and times. 

Special Events: These are closed events and all 

participants must shoot Designated Line of Fire. 

Open Bolt Indicators (OBI’s) are MANDATORY for all 

firearms on the ODR. These can be purchased when the 

range is open.

Targets 50¢ • Ear Protection 50¢ 

OBI’s $1.00 • Varmint Targets 3-for-$1.00 

Note: When range is at full capacity the R.O. has the 

discretion to charge the above rates on a per hour basis.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sponsoring me at the MUCC camp. 

I learned that a monarch butterfly lives on milkweed, that it only takes 4-5 days for an 

egg to hatch, and then become a cocoon. Also a basin is an underground fresh water 

storage. I had loads of fun canoeing and swimming. Did you know that you can make 

tea with boiling water and pine needles The most fun I had 

was being able to shoot 70 rounds with a 22 rifle and archery. 

I’ve made new friends Alac and TJ. Thanks again for giving me 

the opportunity to meet TJ and Alac.

1. During everyday operations a Green Flag will fly. 

2. If you are going to be behind the berm, check the 

appropriate key out for that facility, switch the 

Green Flag for a Red Flag. 

3. If you attempt to use one of the Ranges to the north, 

and a Red Flag is up, check to see what is occurring 

behind the berm before attempting to use said range. 

4. You must exit from behind the berm at the same 

place you entered to behind the berm. 

5. After finishing up any business behind the berms, 

replace the Red Flag with the Green Flag.

BLOOD DRIVE UPDATE 

The Valerie Ann Muncy-Thurston Memorial 

Blood Drive put us over the edge. With the 45 

units taken in May, and the 49 units taken 

Sunday, August 12, Multi-Lakers 94 units of 

blood surpassed the Detroit sportsman’s 

Congress’ 92 units of blood by two units. 

Thank you all that contributed. We also had 

24 sign ups for the Gift of Life organ donor’s 

program. 

The Country Breakfast boosted our total. 

Look for one extra blood drive next year. And 

a big thanks to Mr. Frank Spelker, who was 

instrumental in the success of the event.

Breast Friends 

Have you or someone you know been affected by breast cancer Thousands of 

women are diagnosed every day. It is an on-going battle – and we need your 

help. Each year, the Susan G. Komen Foundation hosts the Breast Cancer 3- 

Day; where men and women from all over the U.S. join together to raise money 

to fight the disease. Adam Rott, member since 2006, and Multi-Lakes volunteer, 

Coral Tucker are “stepping up” this year. Over a period of three days, Adam and 

Coral will trek 60 miles to show their support for the cause. They have agreed to 

raise the required $2,200.00 each. That’s why they need your help. If you are
