Our database shows that, in addition to the 59% of
people born in Australia, we have people from all the
following countries using the service:
In addition to the many individual consultations that we provide, we had
over 15 000 group attendances during the year. Given that 41% of our
clients were born outside Australia, it’s not surprising that 37% of our group
attendances were for cultural groups, although many people from a variety
of backgrounds also attend the other types of groups that we offer. The
opening of the "Youth Space", at the base of the Collinwood High Rise has
seen a big increase in our contact with young people, and now 10% of all
group attendances are with young people.

During the year we provided nearly 190 000 individual
services across all our service types. This equates to
over 3500 people a week coming into the centres,
which explains why our waiting rooms can
sometimes be "standing room only".
Nearly a third of all contacts were in the area of Drug
Safety Services, which includes our Needle & Syringe
Programs, Drug and Alcohol Counselling, and a
multiplicity of other services provided particularly at
348 and 350 Smith Street.
Our General Practitioners had nearly 40 000
consultations during the year, while our pharmacy
dispensed over 38 000 prescriptions and had nearly
15 000 individual visits.

Overall, just over 10 000 registered
clients utilised our services during the
2003/04 year, about 500 more than in
the previous year. These figures do
not include the large number of
unregistered clients who utilise our
services, particularly our Drug Safety
Services. About 55% of our clients
are female, although in the 0-9 and
the 40-49 age groups there is little
difference in utilisation by males/
females. In all other age groups
however, our services are more
utilised by women. This is particularly
marked in the 20-29 age group (when
a lot of women are giving birth) and in
the 80+ age group, since women
tend to live longer. While the overall
number of clients utilising our
services has increased, the proportion
of male/female have stayed
remarkably similar.
