BUSINESS NAME Good Things Thanksgiving: Thanksgiving was first celebrated in the year 1621, near Plymouth, Massachusetts. It is known as a time of thanks and plenty and is a traditional holiday for America. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. But did you realize that other countries also celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday These include Argentina, Canada, Brazil, Japan, and Switzerland! One of the most common traditions of Thanksgiving is right in the name, giving thanks. Ways to give thanks are found in poems, stories and bible verses, such as the poem, I Thank Thee written by Jane Crewdson in 1860. Of course, when most people think of Thanksgiving, they think of the mouthwatering food. The centerpiece for the American feast is usually a large roasted turkey, giving Thanksgiving the nick-name of “Turkey Day.” A tradition involving the turkey is the “wishbone” with which you make a wish. The person who gets their wishbone in their piece of turkey chooses a friend or family member to join them in making a wish. They each grab one end of the bone and pull. The tradition says that whoever gets the larger end of the bone will be awarded with their wish. By Skylar Dockter “Someone Like You” A novel by Sarah Dessen Halley and Scarlett have always been inseparable. Their friendship was perfect: Scarlett was the more out-going one, always knowing just what to do, and Halley was just along for the ride. But the summer before their junior year in high school everything changes for the worst. Scarlett’s boyfriend, Michael, is killed in a motorcycle accident, leaving Scarlett heart-broken. To make matters worse, she finds out that she is pregnant, carrying the baby of the father who left so drastically. Now, despite it all, Halley knows that she must be strong for Scarlett. “Someone Like You” is a dramatic, heart-felt novel about events that could happen to any teenager. I would definitely rate it at least a 4.5 of 5, as it was very dramatic and followed the theme well, but was a bit slow at times. Critique by Skylar Dockter
