3.4 Bradford on Avon community area<br />
3.4.1 Bradford on Avon is one of the smaller market towns in <strong>Wiltshire</strong>. It has good public transport<br />
connectivity and is a popular tourist destination. There are a number of constr<strong>ai</strong>nts to future<br />
development in the town. The town has a high level of out-commuting with the result that it<br />
functions as a dormitory settlement. The objective should be to improve the balance between<br />
housing and employment and to reduce out-commuting.<br />
3.4.2 Limited infill development will be appropriate within the smaller villages of Holt, Staverton,<br />
Westwood and Winsley.<br />

3.4.3 Issues<br />
Poor <strong>ai</strong>r quality as a result of high traffic volumes and congestion exists in the town centre<br />
and an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) is located from Mason’s Lane through to<br />
Silver Street.<br />
Market forces and the attractiveness of the town to retired people, second home owners<br />
and commuters have put pressure on former employment sites to be converted to residential<br />
