Equity Studies<br />
The Equity Studies program focuses on<br />
social justice <strong>the</strong>ories and practices in<br />
a variety <strong>of</strong> local and global contexts. In<br />
addition to core course <strong>of</strong>ferings, students<br />
are required to take equity courses from<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r programs and departments across<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Areas <strong>of</strong> emphasis include<br />
disability studies, global food equity and<br />

bloc in <strong>the</strong> contemporary world. Students<br />
in <strong>the</strong> program acquire a fluency in one<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> major <strong>of</strong>ficial languages <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
European Union and study <strong>the</strong> politics<br />

Forest Conservation<br />
Forest conservation programs combine<br />
traditional ecological and physical<br />
sciences with social sciences to address<br />

biodiversity conservation, ecological<br />
sustainability, protection <strong>of</strong> wildlife and<br />
o<strong>the</strong>r habitats, bi<strong>of</strong>uels and biomaterials<br />

French Studies<br />
French is not only one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial<br />
languages <strong>of</strong> Canada, it is also one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />
world’s major international languages.<br />
French studies provide varied and flexible<br />
approaches to <strong>the</strong> French language and<br />
<strong>the</strong> diversity <strong>of</strong> cultures it expresses. The<br />
skills and knowledge acquired will lay<br />
<strong>the</strong> groundwork for careers in teaching,<br />
journalism, translation, publishing and<br />
government service, as well as research<br />
in a variety <strong>of</strong> fields. In <strong>the</strong> Canadian job<br />
market, command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> French language<br />
is a definite asset. The department <strong>of</strong>fers<br />
students an integrated curriculum which<br />
brings toge<strong>the</strong>r courses in language,<br />
linguistics, literature, French culture and<br />
didactics. Unless specified o<strong>the</strong>rwise, <strong>the</strong><br />
language <strong>of</strong> instruction is French.<br />

surface by nature and people. The<br />
physical and biological elements <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong>se environments, as well as <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
economic and social structure, historical<br />
development, spatial organization,<br />
interrelationships, management and<br />
planning form <strong>the</strong> subject matter <strong>of</strong><br />
