Description
epoline®, The Hague and Epidos, Vienna
Due to the de-commissioning of part of the EPO's mainframe
system (VM/CMS to be exact) the current publication system has
been re-engineered onto another system. This is based on the
epoline® Phoenix system. It is based on the new WIPO Standard
ST.36 which has been created by the Trilateral partners with
WIPO. In addition we use Unicode (UTF-8).
The EBD website has been updated to reflect this change.
What does this mean for the EBD files
Relatively few changes take place to the old SGML EBD file,
nearly all tags remain exactly the same; the changes are:
• All tags will have end tags
• Some tags and attributes change to lower case
• The tag changes to and some
new attributes are added
• The break tag - - (in addresses) is replaced by UTF-8
code x’0A’, carriage return
• The and tags disappear - it is difficult to add
these to XML files. They are replaced by id attributes added to the
tags where changes may take place for example:
this id then refers back to new tags in the
tag which are:
and
for example:
[Note: this tag exists already]

>

all changes throughout a file are thus gathered together within

• has been added to accommodate the new IPCR
revision which came into force in 2006. The XML data files contain
the new IPC coding.
Note: any back file conversion, that is for all 2005 and previous
data we will use the current etc tagging according to the
new ST.8 recommendations: “The previous version of Standard
ST.8, valid until December 31, 2005, is reproduced as an Annex
to the new Standard ST.8.”
However, any republications of pre-2006 data will be updated to
the new IPCR. See the EBD documentation (on the website) for
full details.
• The abstract data will only be available in XML format since
from week 1 2006 we switched the whole publication system
from SGML to XML.
Regarding ST.32 and ST.35 EBD data in SGML:
!
• ST.32 and ST:35 data will continue to be published
on the epoline® website:
http://ebd2.epoline.org/jsp/index.jsp
• Please inform the EPO when you no longer
need this data and have switched to the ST.36
XML format (the official format from week 1,
