new government adm<strong>in</strong>istration has <strong>in</strong>dicated that it will<br />
be review<strong>in</strong>g the legislation to ensure it meets <strong>in</strong>ternational<br />
standards and prohibits applications from persons<br />
associated with sanctioned jurisdictions.<br />
In the CIP that was approved by the parliament of <strong>Antigua</strong><br />
and <strong>Barbuda</strong>, an <strong>in</strong>vestor may apply for citizenship<br />
through four mechanisms: 1) a Real Estate Option which<br />
permits him to purchase property <strong>in</strong> <strong>Antigua</strong> and <strong>Barbuda</strong><br />
with a m<strong>in</strong>imum value of US $400,000.00 <strong>in</strong> a designated<br />
resort zone; 2) a contribution of m<strong>in</strong>imum US<br />
$250,000.00 to a National Development Fund; 3) a contribution<br />
of m<strong>in</strong>imum US $250,000.00 to a Charitable Fund,<br />
or 4) a bus<strong>in</strong>ess <strong>in</strong>vestment of US $1.5 million.<br />
The CIP became operational <strong>in</strong> late 2013, and Mr. Don<br />
Myatt, a Canadian, was appo<strong>in</strong>ted to head the Citizenship<br />
by Investment Unit (CIU). Mr. Myatt has over 30<br />
years of experience <strong>in</strong> the area of Foreign Service. He<br />
leads the team mandated to approve Agents and Service<br />
Providers for the programme and manages the process<br />
which undertakes rigorous scrut<strong>in</strong>y over their operations,<br />
and then ensures meticulous review of the applications<br />
received by the Citizenship by Investment Unit.<br />
Individuals who successfully undergo this due diligence<br />
and <strong>in</strong>terview process, and who can comply with the required<br />
f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>vestment criteria, will be granted citizenship.<br />
