SECTION 3<br />
No laminated or experimental bats shall be used in the BPA Baseball Program, until the manufacturer has<br />
secured approval from the BPA Baseball National Office <strong>of</strong> its design and methods <strong>of</strong> manufacture.<br />
*NOTE. Any bat designated by the manufacture for sports other than <strong>baseball</strong> may not be used.<br />
SECTION 4 CUPPED/BROKEN, CRACKED BATS. An indentation in the end <strong>of</strong> the bat up to one inch in<br />
depth is permitted and may be no wider than two inches and no less than one inch in diameter. The<br />
indentation must be curved with no foreign substance added. Bats that are broken, cracked or dented or<br />
deface the ball- (tear the ball) shall be removed without penalty. A bat that continually discolors the ball<br />
may be removed from the game with no penalty at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the umpire.<br />

The bat handle not more than 18 inches from its end, may be covered or treated with any material or<br />
substance, which improves the grip. A bat choke may be used on the handle <strong>of</strong> the bat which would not<br />
make it an altered bat. Any such material or substance, which extends past the 18 inches limitation, shall<br />
cause the bat to be removed from the game.<br />
*Penalty. If the umpire discovers that a bat does not conform to Sections 2, 3, 4, or 5 above until a time<br />
during or after which the bat has been used in play, it shall not be grounds for declaring the batter out, or<br />
ejected from the game.<br />
**Penalty. Please refer to Rule 7, Section 8-(f) to an addition penalty(s) regarding a batter using an altered<br />
or a tampered bat.<br />
No bats will be allowed to stay in the area outside the batter’s circle<br />
Each coach will furnish their own equipment, including uniforms and game balls.<br />
*EXCEPTION. Balls will be furnished by the Tournament Director in all World Series play<br />
All <strong>players</strong> must wear shoes. A shoe shall be made with either canvas or leather uppers or similar.<br />
a.) Metal cleats can be worn by ages 13 and up. Metal cleats are not allowed for ages 12 year old and<br />
below.<br />
b.) No player shall attach anything to the heel or toe <strong>of</strong> his shoe other than the ordinary shoe plate or toe<br />
plate. Shoes with pointed spikes similar to golf or track shoes shall not be worn.<br />
c.) Penalty. If the umpire discovers a player wearing metal spikes, the coach is ejected on the first<br />
<strong>of</strong>fense; the player shall be ejected on the second <strong>of</strong>fense.<br />
All fielders must wear gloves or mitts made <strong>of</strong> leather or any other approved material. Only the catcher and<br />
the first baseman may wear mitts.<br />
The catcher may wear a leather mitt not more than thirty-eight inches in circumference, or more than<br />
fifteen and one-half inches from top to bottom.<br />
a.) The space between the thumb section and the finger section <strong>of</strong> the mitt shall not exceed 6- inches at the<br />
top <strong>of</strong> the mitt and 4- inches at the base <strong>of</strong> the thumb.<br />
b.) The web shall measure not more than 7- inches across the top or more than 6-inches from its top to the<br />
base <strong>of</strong> the thumb crotch.<br />
The first baseman may wear a leather or any other approved material glove or mitt not more than 12- inches<br />
long from top to bottom, and not more than 8- inches wide across the palm, measured from the base <strong>of</strong> the<br />
thumb crotch to the outer edge <strong>of</strong> the mitt.<br />
a.) The space between the thumb section and the finger section <strong>of</strong> the mitt shall not exceed 4- inches at the<br />
top <strong>of</strong> the mitt and 3 ½- inches at the base <strong>of</strong> the thumb crotch. The mitt shall be constructed so that this<br />
space is permanently<br />
fixed and cannot be enlarged, extended, widened or deepened by the use <strong>of</strong> any materials or process<br />
whatever.<br />
Each fielder, other than the first baseman or catcher, may use or wear a leather or any other approved<br />
material glove.<br />
a.) The measurements covering the size <strong>of</strong> the glove shall be made by measuring the front side or ball<br />
receiving side <strong>of</strong> the glove.<br />
b.) The glove shall not measure more than 12- inches from the tip <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> any one <strong>of</strong> the four fingers,<br />
through the ball pocket to the bottom edge or heel <strong>of</strong> glove.<br />
c.) The glove shall not measure more than 7 ¾- inches wide, measured from the inside seam at base <strong>of</strong> first<br />
finger, along base <strong>of</strong> other fingers, to the outside edge <strong>of</strong> the little finger edge <strong>of</strong> glove.<br />
