Despite somber economic news, the University authorized searching for and making contract offers to two tenure‐track faculty during the year just completed. They both accepted and are to begin their Illinois State careers in August 2010. Lisa Tranel joins the faculty in Geology, coming to us from Virginia Tech University. Her recent research has a western flavor; and her interview presentation, “Evaluation of Erosional Processes Controlling Topographic Evolution in the Teton Range, Wyoming,” emphasized that connection. Lisa grew up in East Dubuque, Illinois. Geographer Matthew Himley, since his December 2009 interview here, has completed his dissertation at Syracuse University. That dissertation research was the subject of his on‐campus lecture, “Frontiers of Capital: Mining, Mobilization, and Resource Governance in Andean Peru.” He has been teaching temporarily at the University of Vermont, and once lived in the Chicago area. 54
