Parent Hosted Events
The type of event is the choice of the host. Events are usually held at someone’s home, club, or
restaurant. The format can be a cocktail reception, a buffet dinner or a sit-down dinner.
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. is the most popular time, but other times can work as well. The average
number of guests is generally around twenty-five.
Speakers are available but ten weeks notice is needed. Speakers have included President
Chopp; Charlotte Johnson, Vice President and Dean of the College; David Roach, Athletic
Director and faculty members.
The Parents’ Fund office will mail out the invitations (after your approval), follow-up with
email, letter, and/or calls. You may preview the invitation list of parents and alumni in your
area. Colgate napkins will be provided and other Colgate paraphernalia (as appropriate). We
will have a guest count four to five days before the event. A staff member from the Parents’
Fund will attend the event and will arrive early to offer assistance. A table to set up name tags
is appreciated.
You can receive gift-in-kind credit for the event that will count toward your parent contribution.
