President John Driscoll, a native
of California, joined the Foundation
Board in 2005 and became active in
finance, planned giving and strategic
planning for the organization. He received
his Bachelor of Arts Degree in
History from UCLA, and earned a Juris
Doctor Degree from the University of
San Diego School of Law, graduating
Magna Cum Laude in 1969. He has
received numerous American Jurisprudence
awards, published articles
for the Law Review and became its
Managing Editor, and received the
distinguished Appellate Advocacy
Award for Best Brief in Annual Moot
Court Competition. John moved to
Placerville in 1970 and was the Assistant
District Attorney in the early
70’s. In 1974, John went into private
practice with an emphasis on real
property, business law, civil litigation
and estate planning. He became the
Placerville City Attorney in 1989 and
Placerville City Manager/Attorney in
2000. John and his wife Pam, who is
a teacher at Charles Brown School,
have been married for 41 years. They
have two grown sons, Jeff and Matt.
Jeff lives in Carmichael and Matt in
Jackson, Wyoming. John’s activities
include camping and skiing and Pam
enjoys quilting.
Vice President Gordon Mott
came to El Dorado County in 1959. For
the past 32 years he and his wife Guadalupe
have operated Gordon Mott
Roofing Co., Inc. Gordon joined the
Marshall Foundation in 2002, served as
the chair of the Planned Giving team
and previously served as Secretary of
the Foundation. He has also served on
the board of the El Dorado Builder’s
Exchange. Gordon and Guadalupe
have two daughters (Genelle and
Christina), one grandson and one
granddaughter.
Secretary Chief George Nielsen
has been a resident of Placerville
for the past 21 years and joined the
Foundation Board in 2005. George is a
graduate of the University of Virginia,
FBI National Academy and holds a
California POST Executive Certificate.
He became the Placerville Police
Chief in 2004. George has 25 years
experience as a police officer with 21
years employment at the Placerville
Police Department. He is President
of the Board for New Morning Youth
and Family Services and he serves on
the El Dorado Western Slope Boys and
Girls Club Board. In addition, George
is the Secretary for the Placerville Masonic
Center Association
Board and also
serves as a Board
Member for the Sierra
Law Enforcement
Chaplaincy. George
and his wife Sue have
one son. George is a
lifelong horse owner
and trainer as well
as western history
enthusiast.
Treasurer Edna
Knutsen moved to
El Dorado County in
1997 from the bay
area after retiring
from corporate
life. She joined the
Marshall Hospital Auxiliary in 1998 and is
still an active member. She has served
as past president of the Auxiliary as well
as the Placerville Shakespeare Club.
She joined the Foundation Board in 2002
and currently sits on every committee
of the Foundation. She served as the
Foundation’s secretary for one year and
treasurer for the past six years. Edna’s
husband, Neil, is also an active member
of the hospital auxiliary. They have four
children, eight grandchildren and one
great grandson.
