CARE FOR PEOPLE<br />
Every year since 1974,<br />
<strong>Marshall</strong> Foundation has<br />
focused on providing for<br />
<strong>the</strong> urgent healthcare needs<br />
of <strong>the</strong> community through<br />
philanthropy. We could not<br />
provide this opportunity during<br />
<strong>the</strong>se tough economic times<br />
without <strong>the</strong> faithful, loyal<br />
donors and volunteers who<br />
make it all possible. To all our<br />
supporters, we are grateful!<br />
CARING SUPPORT:<br />
a summary of year ending<br />
September 2009<br />
• 2,689 loyal donors gave caring<br />
gifts for a total of $711,374 in<br />
contributions.<br />
• The fiscal year ended with assets<br />
of $2,578,855.<br />
• The 26th Bob West Drive for<br />
<strong>Marshall</strong> netted $30,077, up<br />
25% over last year, thanks<br />
to UNION BANK and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
dedicated supporters.<br />
• Forty nurses and five nursing<br />
groups received recognition from<br />
community donors at <strong>the</strong> 3rd<br />
Honor-A-Nurse reception in May.<br />
The Ma<strong>the</strong>wson-Bonser Nursing<br />
Scholarship awareness event<br />
netted $9,401, up 16% over<br />
last year, proudly sponsored by<br />
UNION BANK.<br />
INVESTING IN THE HEALTH<br />
OF OUR COMMUNITY<br />
• The Foundation gave back to<br />
<strong>the</strong> community $180,425 with<br />
40% given to <strong>the</strong> health needs<br />
of low-income populations and<br />
$212,223 to <strong>Marshall</strong> <strong>Medical</strong><br />
<strong>Center</strong> for <strong>the</strong> emergency services<br />
expansion project, bringing total<br />
funding to $392,648.<br />
• $20,000 in community health<br />
grants gave hope for community<br />
health programs related to<br />
diabetes, mental health, and<br />
nutritional health. Recipients<br />
included <strong>Marshall</strong> <strong>Medical</strong><br />
Health Promotions; <strong>the</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong><br />
Community Health Library; CASA<br />
El Dorado; El Dorado County<br />
Senior Day Care Services; Family<br />
Connections; Bipolar Insights;<br />
Mo<strong>the</strong>r Lode Rehabilitation<br />
Enterprises (MORE); New Morning<br />
Youth and Family Services; and<br />
The <strong>Center</strong> for Violence Free<br />
Relationships.<br />
• Additional Community Health<br />
Grants provided $10,828 to buy<br />
<strong>Marshall</strong> Homecare laptops;<br />
$1,000 for <strong>the</strong> City of Placerville<br />
National Night Out program;<br />
$3,000 for an electronic resource<br />
system for <strong>Marshall</strong> <strong>Medical</strong><br />
physicians; $2,052 for breast<br />
cancer survivor needs; and<br />
$3,000 for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Marshall</strong> Adult Lap<br />
Swim program helping seniors<br />
recuperate from hip replacement<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r surgeries where<br />
patients benefit from aquatic<br />
<strong>the</strong>rapy.<br />
• Four Ma<strong>the</strong>wson-Bonser nursing<br />
scholarships totaling $10,000<br />
were awarded to <strong>Marshall</strong><br />
employees to continue and<br />
upgrade <strong>the</strong>ir nursing education:<br />
Hea<strong>the</strong>r McKinnon; Sherry Xue;<br />
Debra Scarbrough; and Mandy<br />
Barraque.<br />
• Since its inception in 1992,<br />
scholarships have been awarded<br />
to 73 recipients for a total of<br />
$105,500.<br />
• The 6th Annual iWalk to School<br />
kindly sponsored by C & H Motor<br />
Parts provided information on<br />
healthy lifestyles for five local<br />
elementary schools while <strong>Marshall</strong><br />
Mouse and <strong>the</strong> Sierra School<br />
Mascot Sparky made <strong>the</strong> day lots<br />
of fun!<br />
• The Campaign for Emergency<br />
Services and Community Health<br />
concluded with pledges equaling<br />
$3,325,878. The expansion of<br />
emergency services at <strong>Marshall</strong><br />
Hospital is planned for completion<br />
by late 2011.<br />
