David Wiesner Wiesner’s family encouraged his passion for art; the Rhode Island School of Design enabled him to refine and perfect his skills. Quiet and reserved, the artist conserves his energies to produce books simple in concept, yet complex in execution. Wiesner has a celebrated imagination -- his books are full of dragons, UFOs, and flying pigs. He is a two-time Caldecott Medalist and a Caldecott Honor Award winner. Selected books illustrated by David Wiesner: The Three Pigs by David Wiesner, 2001 Tuesday by David Wiesner, 1991 Hans Wilhelm Hans Wilhelm grew up in Bremen, West Germany. Following his studies of art and business, he moved to Johannesburg, South Africa. His writing career began when he embarked on a two-year trip, living in Indonesia, Spain, and England. Finally, Wilhelm came to America where his career as a writer and illustrator blossomed. His books have been published in many major languages around the world. Selected books illustrated by Hans Wilhelm: The Royal Raven by Hans Wilhelm, 1996 I’ll Always Love You by Hans Wilhelm, 1989 Mike Wimmer Although Mike Wimmer’s mother and stepfather encouraged him to draw and paint throughout his childhood, they hoped he would select a more stable career. He excelled in athletics and academics, but art was his passion. When he graduated with a degree in art from the University of Oklahoma, the graduates received a dipolma bearing one of Wimmer’s illustrations. He currently works as a commercial artist and illustrator. Zelinsky A painting by his great-grandmother on the wall of his childhood bedroom may be one of the reasons Zelinsky became a picture book illustrator. He attended Yale University, but was undecided about his future even after completing a course taught by Maurice Sendak. Several years after receiving an MFA from Tyler School of Art, however, book illustration beckoned the artist. He won a Caldecott Medal in 1998. Selected books illustrated by Paul O.
