F.A.I.T.H’s The Power House for Kids
1K/5K/10K on May 5th
The Power House for Kids is a child advocacy center in Northeast Georgia
that serves Stephens, Habersham and Rabun County. Other counties
are served upon request. It is the goal of The Power House to ensure
that children disclosing abuse are not further victimized by the intervention
systems designed to protect them. Children and teens coming to the Power
House may be victims of abuse and/or neglect, or may have witnessed a serious
crime.
The Power House is able to offer a "kid-focused" coordinated team response to
allegations of abuse by bringing together agencies and professionals involved in the investigation
and intervention system. The multidisciplinary approach means that The Power
House brings Law Enforcement, Child Protective Services, Medical Professionals, Forensic
Interviewers, Mental Health Professionals and Advocates into one location, reducing the need
for children and families to navigate a sometimes difficult and confusing system
All services are free and confidential to the child and his/her caregiver.
The Power House for Kids is a program of FAITH in Rabun County, Inc. and accredited member of the National
Children's Alliance and Children's Advocacy Centers of Georgia.
In 2011 alone, 393 children were served by The Power House for Kids. The number one reason for referal was sexual
abuse, with physical abuse as the second largest category of service rendered.
In 2009 The Power House for Kids saw 228 NEW cases, 2010-315 NEW cases, and in the year of 2011 there were 359
NEW cases. New cases refer to those that were previously unserved victims.
In an effort to help continue these services there will be a Road Race on May 5, 2012. All proceeds will go to The
Power House for Kids. The race will start at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Toccoa. The 1k begins at 8:30 am and the 5K
and 10K begin at 9 am. Call 706-599-6339 for more information.
