Marzena Art
I am French-Polish and I live in France, Orleans.
I paint since 2008. Before arriving in France, I worked with a Polish
artist. We made a few fashion shows in Poland (Warsaw and Lodz).
Until then, my artistic sense was expressed more in fashion
clothing.
The ability to express emotions through painting has always
fascinated me. It was something of a revelation, not of my artistic
side, but my ability to express myself on a canvas.
I am not influenced by painting styles. I’m influenced only by my
imagination. I want to create my own style and not being influenced
by others. That’s why my style is always evolving depending on my
own imagination and emotions.
My only guideline is the spontaneous of my imagination. My
inspiration is coming also from the street and my environment,
that’s why I mix some picture with painting.
In my paintings, I want to express my emotions, which are
sometimes extreme. I never prepare what I am going to paint, it is a
spontaneous expression of my imagination. Most of my paintings
are dark for the reasons mentioned above. My paintings are
ANDREW BATE &
CATHERINE FROWD
Catherine Frowd is a visual artist. Her husband, Andrew Bate, is a composer and
songwriter. They have a three year old daughter.
We’ve worked on many projects together, most prominently the work we have
done with Rogue Theatre. I have been a musical director for Rogue since 2008
writing, performing and overseeing the music for their shows and Catherine has
been photographing them for many years, utilising her unique style.
We’ve also just finished working on a short film together called Grey’s Lot for
director Ian Bucknole. I wrote the score and produced the sound design for the
film and Catherine provided the still images.
It’s a pleasure to work with someone on a project who you know has the passion
and the ability to make things happen. Someone who will always support you and
you can encourage back because you both understand what it’s like to work in the
artistic field.
I have composed music for theatre, film and dance for eleven years and have seen
my music featured in Red Cross advertising campaigns and played at the London
IMAX as part of the Virgin Media Shorts shortlisted film RVG. My work can be
found via Soundcloud
(soundcloud.com/andrewbatemusic).
Catherine s passionate about passing on her creativity to our daughter who often
comes on photo shoots with her. She works in a mixture of mediums including
painting, photography, sculpture and film, imbuing them all with her distinctive
style. Look out for Catherine s mixed media workshops this year.
Professional Makeup Stylist Penelope Gibson shares
how she created a fresh British look for the catwalk
models at The Hollie Gazzard Trust Fashion Show.
Makeup Stylist: Penelope Gibson
Design Brief: Create a classic British
look, but keep it fresh and current to
enhance the creations of the fashion
designers
I know us makeup and beauty professionals
are always banging on about primer, but
the truth is that these products really work.
They even out skin tone, fill pores, hydrate
and generally create a perfect surface for
you to apply your foundation. For this
shoot I used Urban Decay Tightening &
Brightening Complexion Primer Potion
(£19.00) I love the way it performs; it
brightens, it tightens and reduces fine lines
with improved surface texture.
To create a flawless demi matt finish for the
models skin I used Urban Decay Naked Skin
Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup (£24.30).
This foundation is lightweight with amazing
coverage that leaves your skin looking
naturally flawless. To cover any blemishes
or darkness under the eyes I used Yves
Saint Laurent Touché Eclat Radiant Touch
(£22.50) a must for any handbag. When
working on the eyes I opted for M.A.C
Mineralise Eye Shadow palette ‘A waft of
grey’ £33.00) the pigments in these eye
shadows are amazing, a little certainly goes
a long way and you can achieve a real
density of colour with a small amount of
product.
www.uniquemediagroup.co.uk

For the lashes I used Bobbi Brown
Pretty Powerful Mascara (£19.00 5ml);
this product lengthens, thickens and
defines lashes without smudging or
clumping – while conditioning and
strengthening lashes.
Top Tip: When applying
mascara always start with
your bottom lashes to
avoid unsightly mascara
smudges on your upper
eye.
16
No smokey eyed look would be
complete without eyeliner; I
worked Benefit BADgal
waterproof eyeliner in Black
(£15.00) into the top and
bottom lash line to give diffused
definition.
For a picture perfect pout I
applied using a brush for
precision; Chanel Rouge Allure
Luminous Intense Lip Colour
(£26.00) – this lipstick offers a
radiant and satiny makeup
result with optimal hold.
To complete the look I applied
Laura Mercier Crème Cheek
Colour in Rosebud (£18.45) to
add a not so innocent flush of
colour to the models cheeks.
T: 07411 962418
I was referred to LNH Management Solutions when looking to setup
a new business venture. I've been very pleased with the time Lee
initially spent with me advising on the business structure and
helping with all of the necessary set-up and registration
requirements. Since this, Lee regularly keeps contact to ensure the
business is running smoothly and has always been available to
offer his support in a personal and approachable manner. I've been
highly impressed with his services and would have no hesitation in
recommending him to other small businesses.
Dear Chris and Caroline, Thank you again for the
outstanding service. As you know, I had a specific idea in
mind which had some unusual features. I did not feel
confident that the first company I approached could
achieve the design I wanted after their repeated failure to
provide a drawing to my specifications. In contrast you
provided the drawing I needed quickly and efficiently
which, together with your professional and caring
approach, left me in no doubt about placing an order with
you.
My mother and I are delighted with the stone, and I know
my father would have liked it. It's funny but it seems so
appropriate for him, with its height, slim width and stylish
features. I hope I can equal your high standards in the small
planting area in front of the stone with my flowers.
You both do such an important job and you do it extremely
well.
Interview With
Brad Burton
About Brad Burton if you have never come across him before:
The UK’s #1 MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER. Brad is also the Dynamic MD of 4Networking
who run 5,000+ events each year. AUTHOR: 3 hit business books Get Off Your Arse,
GEt Off Your Arse Too and Life. Business...Just Got Easier.
Brad covered a number of topics and I will communicate them over to you
in machine gun fashion :
Steve: Why start your own business?
Brad: Less Money...and More Stress is the
Reality. But you have the freedom to pick up the
kids from school and go to the duck pond when
you want to which was massive to me. 2014 is a
great time to start a business with
opportunities at every corner but with the
reality that it is incredibly tough out there but
No Self Employed person is starving to
deathout there.
S: How did you get through those early years in
business ?
B: I almost quit 4Networking several times, I
was as close to quitting as you possibly can get
like 99% but the only reason I didn’t was
because I had No Plan B...I had to
make4Networking work... I started 4Networking
at the time to get appointments for my
marketing business4Consultancy...if you are in
business you need appointments too.
Sometimes I think that having no money at the
start kept me sharp and innovative as I had to
get appointments or the mortgage wasn’t
getting paid.
S: Brad what tips would you give any new
business starting out ?
B: Bang...right 4 tips
1) Ensure that you love the business you are
in as when the going gets tough you need to
have that passion
2) The reality is It will take 4 times longer to
make a success of your business than what
is in your business plan, prepare for it and
accept it
3) Rely on yourself to make things happen,
but surround yourself with good people who
have skills that you don’t possess. But it is
up to you to drive the business
4) Spend 100% of your time being 100% on
being yourself...heres an example:
I was at a business show in my normal
clothes..T shirt, Jeans and trainers and this
business speaker guy told me that I would
never get anywhere on the speakers circuit
looking like how I do. Well...I don’t see this
guy getting asked to Headline The Business
Show in London and working with massive
companies like JCB....I speak from the heart
and stay true to who I am...worked out ok
so far.
www.uniquemediagroup.co.uk

22
S: What motivates you now considering
the success you have had both with
4Networking, Speaking & Business
Books?
B: Making a Positive Difference...I am
going to do some speaking at Dartmoor
Prison so if I can help show there is
another way. I am quite realistic that if I
would of made different choices when I
was younger it could be me in there as
growing up in Salford Manchester was
tough and at times I lost my way..
unemployed for periods..but I always
wanted to make a difference. I love
working on my speaking and that is a
real passion for me, I purposely don’t
watch other speakers as I don’t want it to
influence my style.
S: So what is a normal day for you now?
B: I still get along to 4Networking
meetings about 4 a month I was doing 3 a
week beforeChristmas but with both Steff
Thomas and Terry Cooper onboard with
me it does run itself to a degree, attend
business events, mentor some
people..but time is a factor.
S: What are your future plans now Brad?
B: Too take 4Networking globally, we are now in
Australia so it will happen...but not with me at the
helm my focus is now on other areas and I am
surrounded my a great team I am also in the middle
of writing my forth book called Next it will be full of
short stories to give insight and inspire business
owners. Do more speaking gigs I love it, I have done
The Business Show for six years now and the JCB gigs
are brilliant.
S: Thanks Brad for your thoughts, anything
else you would like to add.
B: At the beginning when I started 4Networking I
needed a fight to keep me going and that adversity
built the result of the business today. But now it is
different 4Networking is the establishment so it vital
that we keep things fresh. Ohhhh yes....A Daft idea is
only a daft idea if they don’t work.
Thank you Brad...You can
Connect with Brad on
Twitter @BradBurton and on
website http://bradburton.biz/
S: You spoken before about having a
breakdown a few years ago, are you ok to
talk about that?
B: Yeah sure...Sometimes in life you
end up making bad decisions and I was
making bad decisions in both personal
and business especially if you run a
business your personal and business life
are thesame thing..you don’t clock off at
5:30 in self employed world. So I made a
few bad calls you end up drinking more,
trying to mask the issues and boom you
end up having a breakdown. What I learnt
from the whole thing was..Never to
confuse Bad Luck with Bad Decisions.
Hollie Gazzard Trust
Hope, passion & a life fulfilled
A production of Educating Rita was presented by the Everyman Theatre’s
professional company and performed by Mark Carey and Dani Carbery at the
King’s Theatre in Gloucester on Saturday 24 January in aid of the Hollie Gazzard
Trust. It was a thoroughly entertaining evening, brilliantly performed and directed
by Paul Milton.
Willy Russell’s play Educating Rita is a modern classic. It tells the story of
hairdresser Rita, who feels that life has passed her by. She wants an education.
But does Open University lecturer Frank have anything to teach her? Educating
Rita is a hilarious, and moving, story of a woman’s determination to change her
life. (does this remind you of Hollie?)
Director Paul Milton said ‘..We are happy to be here in Gloucester with our
production of Educating Rita, a play that has been performed at the Everyman
before, but is surely ripe for revival. It’s a twentieth-century classic and has been
voted one of the most popular plays of all time. Even though it’s a comedy I hope
you found the serious themes too – a working woman’s place in society, the
purpose of education, midlife crises and others..’
A great evening’s entertainment and HGT would like to thank the Everyman for
this performance and donating the proceeds to the fund. we would also like to
than the Kings Theatre for its hospitality. A great intimate theatre and we look
forward to working with the Everyman in the future.
Gloucester Ambassador
We are delighted that Juliette Crosby has
joined The Trust as its Ambassador for
Gloucester. Fresh from her time as Miss
Gloucester 2014, Juliette wanted to
continue her great work in the charity
sector and as a Churchdown resident, HGT
is close to her heart. She was therefore
delighted when asked to be an
Ambassador for the Trust. We are very
excited about what Juliette can add in
terms of building on what we have
achieved so far!
Quote from Juliette
' I'm honoured to have been asked to have
be part of a truly amazing cause. The
events that's happened with Hollie, not
only touched me but the whole
community and I'm looking forward to
working together to change the way we
think about domestic abuse and knife
CLAIMING VAT ON PRE-REGISTRATION EXPENDITURE
VAT is an administrative minefield for accountants, let alone business owners.
However a very important piece of favourable VAT legislation that all business owners should be
aware of is the entitlement to reclaim VAT on some of their expenditure made before they became
registered. Of course you must make sure that both the business and the entity are the same one that
made the original purchase (i.e. the business has not changed from a sole trade to a company).
There are different rules that apply however to the purchase of goods and the purchase of services.
VAT on the Purchase of Pre-Registration Goods
Businesses can reclaim VAT on the purchase of goods prior to registration providing that the goods
were purchased within the four years prior to the date of registration, and they fall within one of the
below categories:
1. The goods purchased will result in a sale/supply on which the business will be able to charge
VAT (i.e. the goods haven’t been used, sold or consumed at the date of registration). A good example
would be a builder who has a number of building materials in stock at the point of registering for VAT.
These materials in stock would be expected to be used on a future sale which will be charged VAT, an
therefore the original VAT on the purchase of the materials can be reclaimed.
2. VAT can also be reclaimed on goods which were purchased and used prior to registration, as
long as they continue to be used after registration to contribute in generating sales/supply on which
the business will be able to charge VAT. Examples of this would typically be capital assets such as
vans, plant/machinery, computer equipment, etc. Despite being used prior to the registration, you can
still recover 100% of the original VAT on the purchase.
VAT on the Purchase of Pre-Registration Services
It is extremely difficult to be able to prove whether a service paid for prior to registration has resulted
in a service provided to the business after registration. Therefore the rules for reclaiming VAT on the
purchase of services prior to registration only allow for purchases up to six months prior to the date o
registration.
Unique Football
The Robins @bcfctweets
So after 26 Games Bristol City are Top of League One with 57 Points, with MK Dons and
Swindon chasing them hard. Steve Cotterill is doing a agnificent job for Bristol City so far
this season and they won the last game 2 - 0 against Fleetwood Town.
MK Dons and current leaders Bristol City will battle for top spot in League One on
Saturday. MK hope Will Grigg and Ben Reeves are back from injury, while Keith Andrews is
on the bench after re-signing. Steve Cotterill's Bristol City are looking for their sixth
consecutive victory in the league.
Ex-Dons striker Aaron Wilbraham (hip) is nearing a return, but faces competition up front
from Matt Smith, Kieran Agard and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Dons boss Karl Robinson will
watch from the stands, as he serves the final game of a four-match touchline ban.
But he goes into the fixture as League One's manager of the month for January, after
taking 11 points from 15 last month.
MK Dons boss Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio: "Bristol City have got a squad
that any manager in this league would take. "They're probably better than when we
played them earlier in the season - but they might argue we are better too. "They are hot
favourites to win the league - we know we're underdogs but we accept that." Bristol City
defender Mark Little told BBC Radio Bristol: "We go out to win so that's what you're
preparing for, not who you're playing against. "They're so close to us and it makes it that
little bit more exciting. "The people who try harder in certain games and not in others
won't make it too far.
"We may look back at the end of the season and think the smaller games were more
important. It may not be the MK Dons ones"
