Tuesday August 28, 2012 – 13:00 – 14:00 – Club A Open Access – Recent Developments James Milne, Managing Director of RSC Publishing Open Access in scientifi c publishing is a very topical subject. In the UK, the government recently commissioned an independent review on ‘expanding access to published research fi ndings’. This engaged with key stakeholders, including academics, librarians, funders and publishers. Based on their fi ndings, published 23 July 2012, the main funding agency RCUK announced a revised policy on open access. The EU has also recently announced their own position on open access. Despite all the positive activities, there is still a lot of confusion amongst researchers (particularly in the chemical sciences) as to what is expected of them, and how they can do what is expected! At this presentation, the RSC will review recent developments and outline where they see the direction of travel for OA. They will also explain how the RSC, as one of the most progressive scientifi c publishers of high quality content, will engage with these developments to support the chemical science community during a period of uncertainty. Following an opening presentation, there will be plenty of time for discussion amongst participants. As a hot topic of great relevance to all researchers, this session will be of interest to many delegates at EuCheMS.
