Shred Your Documents Day
The immensely successful Shred Your Documents Day returns on Saturday, September 14 from 9
to noon at the Brecksville Municipal Parking Lot. It is the last Shredding Day until the spring. Here’s
your chance to securely shred all those confidential documents that should not go in the trash. Plus,
it’s a great way to recycle paper.
The City is asking everyone who attends to bring a voluntary contribution of canned goods for
“Brecksville Pantry,” which supplies food monthly to people who have been hurt by the economic
times. The Pantry is always in need of peanut butter and jelly, canned tuna, spaghetti and sauce,
canned vegetables and canned fruit. The only kinds of beans needed are baked beans or pork and
beans. Also cereal, paper products, bar soap and toothpaste are needed. Gift cards from Heinen’s and
Marc’s to purchase fresh meat and frozen orange juice are greatly appreciated.
The Pantry has a strict policy that out of respect for our recipients we will not distribute outdated
food. Please check the expiration date on each item. It is most unfortunate that we have had to dispose
of a significant amount of outdated goods.
The Brecksville Broadview Heights City
School District and the City of Brecksville have
an agreement that extends a lease to the City of
Brecksville for the Highland Drive Elementary
School playing field in exchange for the use of
this field. The City is rebuilding this field with
our own Service Department performing a portion
of the work. The excavation and regrading
of the entire playing field was donated by a
Brecksville resident/local contractor. The City
will pay for fencing, bleachers, grass planting
and concrete work at a cost estimate between
$27,000 and $32,000. Quality fields such as
this would normally cost in excess of $200,000,
not including the cost of clearing land. This
agreement between the City and Schools
eliminates the need to clear part of the wooded
area at Blossom that would have been necesmayor’s
message
The Brecksville Charter
Review Commission has
completed its review of the
Charter these past eight
months and has submitted
to City Council its
recommendations that
will be placed on the
November ballot for consideration by our voters.
A brochure explaining the issues will be
mailed to all Brecksville households. I wish
to commend Chairman Daniel Kolick, Vice-
Chairman Rob Remington, Recording Secretary
Nancy DiMitris and members Ray Andrews,
Bob Ganley, Matt Garito, Sue Komandt, Jeff
Mihalich, Steve Sweetnich, Kim Veras and
alternate Eric Hall. These citizens did an indepth
study that included City Administration,
Department Heads, City Council members
and resident input. Although some of the issues
could be classified as housekeeping, meaning
they pertain to common practice in the way the
government operates, they also make for more
efficient economic development and a more
direct system of checks and balances regarding
decisions made by City Council and
the Mayor.
Also this November the
voters will choose four members
of City Council and
two Board Members for the
Brecksville-Broadview Heights
City School District.
More November Ballot Info
There is one zoning amendment
on the ballot which applies to the Blossom Hill
City property off Oaks Road which is zoned
Community Facilities. The City currently
allows some office use on the property for various
City affiliated organizations. We are asking
the voter to add Office Zoning to the zoning
as an overlay which will allow us to continue
to use existing buildings for office use. This
became an issue when Haven Hill left Blossom
Hill and the vacant building was being considered
for office use by our City Prosecutor.
It was discovered that it would be necessary to
add the office overlay to comply fully with our
zoning requirements. This is not to build new
office buildings, this is only to allow the current
buildings to have some office use and that
office use will be directly related to the City and
City functions.
The Brecksville Broadview Heights City
School District is proposing a dual purpose
renewal levy for 6.3 mills. Approval of this
The Brecksville
Broadview Heights
City School District
is proposing a levy
that will renew the
current levy of
6.30 mills on a
continuing basis.
renewal will not increase taxes or increase revenue.
Approval of this renewal as a continuing
levy will enable the district to better plan financially
for the future and will save the cost of
future elections.
Cuyahoga County has a tax levy replacement
of 2.9 mills of an existing health and human
services levy with an increase of 1.0 mill supplementing
their General Fund. Appropriations for
Health and Human Services or Social Services
is a rate not exceeding 3.9 mills for each $100
of valuation for 5 years.
The County will also be electing three members
to the Governing Board of the Educational
Service Center.
Please review all issues closely, know your
candidates for School Board and City Council
as well as the issues, and please by all means
vote in this upcoming
November 5 election – be part of the process!
Back to School
Schools are open and we make
our annual plea that you drive
safely, especially adhering
to the school zones, and
as you travel near school
buses, extra caution is
always a good idea. Please be
diligent and watch for the
children who walk to and
from school. It is also the
beginning of our fall scholastic
sports season along with many
other activities at our schools. We encourage
you to support these programs. Our youth are
quite dedicated and work very hard to prepare
for sports and activities. Welcome back to our
teachers and we thank them for their service to
our community. Please support our local school
district. It’s one of the very best in the state and
that keeps our property values at a high level.
Orange Barrels
This has been a very busy season for our
Service Department and for those private
contractors who are engaged in projects in the
City. Many street paving projects, concrete
replacement, culvert and storm sewer repairs
have been part of the projects completed. I’d
like to recognize and commend our Service
Department for their outstanding work doing
our own asphalt paving projects. With our
own crews and equipment paving our roads we
literally save hundreds of thousands of dollars
each year rather than contracting out the work.
It costs the City roughly one-third of what
the cost would be to bid the project and have
private contractors perform the work. The City
received assistance with funding from Cuyahoga
County which reimbursed us for the cost of
materials to pave Miller Road and Riverview
Road. That grant covered all materials including
the cost of grinding asphalt, tack coat and
asphalt. A similar grant will be available to the
City for repaving Snowville Road which will be
in 2014. The City also made some repairs to
Route 82 in the area of 82 and Highland as a
temporary measure. Route 82 from the center
of town to the Broadview Heights line is scheduled
to be repaved by ODOT in 2014 or 2015.
The work on Route 82 was done while the road
was closed for those two weeks. The City contracted
with Fabrizi Construction to repair the
culvert and hillside slippage from the south side
of Route 82 to the north side. Thank you all
for your patience and cooperation during this
project. Since the detour took traffic through
the Old Royalton Road area I also thank the
residents in that area for their tolerance and
cooperation and, of course, thanks to those
traveling the area for maintaining the speed
limits of the roadway. This was a major project
for the City funded by “emergency funds”
from the ODOT. I also take this opportunity
to thank all of the residents for their patience
and cooperation who live in areas where we are
performing road, culvert or sewer work. We
hope that everyone will recognize that these
inconveniences are necessary as we continue to
maintain and upgrade our infrastructure. We
have over 250 lane miles to take care of and we
dedicate a sizable amount of our annual funding
toward this maintenance and restoration.
A New Athletic Field Next Year
2
sary if we had built this field on that property.
Certainly in the future we will need additional
fields, but this has created a wonderful opportunity
for the City to add another field without
incurring a major cost. We thank School
Superintendent Scot Prebles and the School
Board for their cooperation.
Brecksville Practicing “Regionalism”
With this same theme, the Cities of
Brecksville and Independence have agreed
to a collaborative sharing of our Building
Departments. Both City Councils have agreed
to a proposal from the Mayors that our
Building Departments, both of which are and
will remain State Certified, work together as
one unit with a sharing of staff and services
in which each inspection performed by the
other city will be billed to that city. In other
words, if we inspect in Independence, then
Independence will reimburse us, and if the
City of Brecksville is inspected by the City of
Independence, we will reimburse them. In this
way we can work with existing staff and most
probably eliminate the need for additional
staff, and in the future perhaps reduce staff by
attrition. This is not a new concept but a new
agreement. For years the City of Brecksville
and the City of Independence have been working
together cooperatively with our Building
Departments sharing staff. This agreement formalizes
that practice and now includes sharing
costs through reimbursement. We also believe
that our level of services will not only be maintained
but be more efficient as well. And this
is just the beginning. Currently Brecksville and
Independence share equipment when it is most
efficient to have one City perform work in the
other. Recently, we paved Oakhurst Circle and
crossed the line into Independence. They reimbursed
Brecksville for that portion of the paving
project.
Congratulations to all who participated in
our Home Days celebration and our summer
programs throughout the season. We hope you
enjoyed our Concerts on the Square and the
other activities provided throughout the summer
months.
I want to thank the Human Services volunteers
for all of their assistance to others
throughout the summer and acknowledge our
volunteers for enhancing the quality of life for
those residents who need assistance and rely
upon these volunteer services.
We congratulate the Brecksville Kiwanis Club
on their annual horse show. This is a major
fundraising effort for the Kiwanis Club and
they return these dollars to our community for
people who are in need, and to support civic
organizations and the schools.
We look forward to the Firefighters’
Clambake held in the Brecksville Service
Garage on Saturday, September 7. Please contact
the Fire Department at 526-2640 if you
want tickets and in doing so supporting the
Brecksville Firefighters’ Association and their
philanthropic efforts.
What a Beautiful Town We Live In
As you drove through the City this summer,
I am sure you recognized the wonderful and
beautiful plantings on City grounds and on
private property. Our Brecksville Beautification
Committee sets the tone and is the catalyst
behind the many beautiful projects and plantings
we enjoy during the summer. This year’s
Beautification Award winners are: True North,
10346 Brecksville Road as the commercial
winner. We thank the Lyden Family and True
North for the outstanding landscape plan
they have developed at their new, impressive
corporate facility. In the residential category,
congratulations to: Rich & Sheila Humphrey,
10167 Deer Run, Maria & Biagio Mileti,
6668 Westview and Lenny & Joyce Pitten,
9540 Chapel Hill Oval. These three properties
are maintained at a level of excellence not
often seen on private residential properties. I
commend these families for their dedication
in maintaining their property and for making
Brecksville the beautiful community it is.
We encourage all residents to maintain their
properties to the best of their ability, and thank
you for all that the various homeowners’ associations
and residents do to make Brecksville
beautiful.
City Personnel Moves
At the City Council meeting on August 27,
I was pleased to administer the oath of office
to 30 year Police Sergeant Dan Jereb who was
promoted to Lieutenant filling that executive
officer vacancy. Also in the police ranks
we congratulate Patrolman Patrick Coleman
who was promoted to Police Sergeant filling
the vacancy created by the appointment of
Lieutenant Jereb.
Congratulations and welcome to Firefighter/
Paramedics Sergio DiGeronimo, Jr. and John
Niton to the full-time Fire Department replacing
two retirees. In the Police Department, we
welcome part-time Police Dispatcher Jackie
Lipton.
As the winter approaches, we will be seeing
the completion of the service garage being constructed
at Blossom, the hiring of a designer for
the Police Station and the hiring of a designer
for the next phase of the Stadium Drive Master
Plan – the design of a vehicle storage building
and streetscape along Stadium Drive. We are
also working with City Council regarding our
future capital plans for Blossom and look forward
to those discussions and the input of our
residents.
I wish all the students returning to all phases
of education the very best. Enjoy the fall season!
council corner
With the beginning of the school year we now
look forward to the crisp, cool air that autumn
brings to Brecksville. Along with the end of
summer, our City forces are completing their
various road improvement and construction
projects with the onset of winter weather just
around the corner. As you drive around town
throughout the fall, you will notice several projects
aimed at either improving our road surfaces or
fixing various sewer or slope failures. While these repairs are being
completed, please obey the posted traffic signs and drive cautiously
around the worksites. On behalf of City Council, we are grateful
to our residents for dealing with the two week closure of Route
82 in August in order to perform a sewer culvert replacement and
slope slippage repair. Thank you also to our police department for
maintaining traffic along the detour route and ensuring the safety of
the affected areas.
Once again, the City’s financial statements were audited and we
have received a “clean” opinion from the State Auditor’s office. That
opinion can be obtained on the internet from the State Auditor’s
webpage. Every year the City prepares and publishes a document
called the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) which
details the City’s financial accounts and activities. While this
document is voluminous and very detailed, a more user-friendly
document is also prepared for our residents. This document is the
Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) and a copy was mailed
to every home and business in Brecksville back in July. After you
have had a chance to review the PAFR, if you have any questions or
comments please feel free to contact us by calling City Hall or via
email at information@brecksville.oh.us.
I’d like to make everyone aware of some important dates and
events occurring this fall around town: Shred Your Documents Day
September 14; Historical Association Apple Butter Festival October 6
from 1-5pm; Booville at Blossom October 27 from 1-4pm; Trick or
Treat October 31 from 6-8pm.
Finally, Tuesday November 5 is Election Day. There are numerous
issues that will be on the ballot for your consideration including City
Council, School Board, BBHCSD renewal levy and eight City of
Brecksville Charter Review amendments. I encourage everyone to
become informed of the various issues on the ballot and please vote.
Greg Skaljac, president
buildings & grounds
Louis N. Carouse, Jr.
As the summer comes to an end, the Buildings
and Grounds Committee continues to be busy with
many ongoing projects and the planning of others.
Work continues on the Service Garage at Blossom
and despite weather delays, the building is expected to
be complete by year’s end. Decisions regarding roof
repairs for the Community Center and Fire Station
are expected soon and work will begin thereafter. The
City is constructing a pavilion at Blossom covering the
bleachers between diamonds E and F at a cost of $11,749. The project is
being done in-house by our Service Department. This will provide a safer
environment for spectators and players from baseballs and sudden storms.
We have also entered into a long-term lease with the school district for
the Highland Drive Elementary School baseball field. The City will rebuild
the field by regrading the land, planting new turf, installing the dirt infield,
replacing the backstop and dugout/benches. The project is being completed
by our Service Department and a local construction company volunteering
their equipment and manpower. The cost is estimated to be approximately
$28,000.00 which is considerably less than constructing a new field at
Blossom Hill. The field is sized for younger age play and softball. The
4
Reports from committee chairpersons
City will maintain the field and use it during the summer. The School will
have use of the field during the school day.
Future projects are on the horizon as we are seeking an architect to design
the next phase of the Stadium Drive Master Plan which is the Storage
Building and Streetscape in preparation of a 2014 completion. Also, we
are moving closer to beginning the Police Station project. We will soon
be clearing portions of the property and performing soil borings. The
Administration is preparing requests for proposals for the design and/or project
manager to begin the planning for its construction.
Thank you to our Service Department for saving the City considerable
monies by completing many projects in-house throughout this construction
season.
program, as well as a wealth of information on other
safety matters and services. Requests to the Service
At the time of this writing, paving is complete on Pershing Drive,
Rockledge Drive, Windswept Dr., Forestdale Drive, Oakhurst Circle,
and Riverview Road from 8343 to S.R. 82. Paving on Miller Road from
Katherine Blvd. to Barr Rd. will also be completed. The municipal parking
lot is also scheduled to be paved. Crack sealing is complete on S.R. 21
south of S.R. 82.
The Streets & Sidewalks Committee would like to thank Service
Director Ron Weidig and his staff for another very successful annual road
program. Road work often has to be performed in extreme heat or in other
less-than-ideal conditions. A great amount of work is done in-house by
our Service Department and this saves the City a considerable amount of
money.
Reminder – school is open; please respect the loading and unloading of
the children on our roads.
utilities Michael Harwood
As we approach Election Day on Tuesday November 5, 2013, I would like
to remind residents that there are several local items on
the ballot that impact Brecksville residents and require
your attention.
their ability. Please review these items on the City Website; all of the ordinances
with the proposed changes are posted. Please contact members of
City Council or Mayor Hruby with any questions.
• City Council has proposed a change Ordinance 4722 to allow the Zone
Map of the City of Brecksville for PP# 603-10-001 Oakes Road (Blossom
Hill) currently zoned Community Facilities, to overlay on said parcel the
Office Building Zoning District and to allow on the parcel the uses permitted
in the Office Building Zoning District, with the exception of R-60
Buildings and Uses. This change has been proposed to allow the exsisting
buildings at Blossom to be leased by third parties affliated with the city.
This is not to provide for new office buildings. Please contact members of
City Council or Mayor Hruby with any questions.
• There are four Brecksville City Council seats whose terms expire 1/1/2014
that will be on the November ballot for election to the terms beginning
1/2/2014.
• The Brecksville-Broadview Hts City School District has a 6.3 mill dual-purpose
renewal levy on the ballot. Approval of this renewal will not increase
taxes nor will it increase revenue for the school district. Rather it will allow
the district to continue to collect the same amount of revenue it has since
this levy was originally approved by voters in 2004. Please review the levy
renewal information on the district website.
A reminder that absentee ballots may be requested through the county
board of elections website at http://boe.cuyahogacounty.us
Should you ever wish to review the Brecksville Code of Ordinances, a computerized
version is available to you for reference at the Brecksville Branch of
the Cuyahoga County Library. The Brecksville Code and all adopted legislation
are also available for reference at Brecksville City Hall by contacting City
Council Clerk Mary Scullin at 526-2609 or mscullin@brecksville.oh.us.
Members of City Council attended a meeting on
June 4 as follow up to the annual financial audit.
With no major recommendation for improvement, the
auditors reported the City’s reporting to be accurate
and of high quality. In addition to having passed the
audit with high marks, the City of Brecksville continues
to maintain the highest financial rating possible for a
municipality.
At the June 18 meeting, City Council authorized the issuance of a grant
in the amount of $20,000 to the Community Awareness and Prevention
Association (C.A.P.A) for the fiscal year 2013-2014. C.A.P.A has been
providing an array of prevention and intervention services for children, youth,
and families in Brecksville since 1989.
Payment of the monthly professional bills was made for legal, architectural,
and engineering services in the amount of $33,344.73 in June, $43,960.91 in
July, and $35,712.63 in August.
Coming mostly from an increase in net profits from corporations located
in Brecksville, income tax collections are up 5.71% by year over year
comparison through the first eight months of 2013. Keeping in line with
the conservative approach of City Council, the administration has managed
outflows well and kept within the planned budget for this year through
August.
Mayor Hruby outlined a recommendation regarding an income tax credit
reduction in the Spring issue of the Bulletin for the purpose of enabling
various possible projects and improvements to the Fire Department,
Community Center, Old Town Hall, Police Department, and the Blossom
Hill Complex. If you have a question or a comment regarding the
recommendation, please do not hesitate to email me at RMack@brecksville.
oh.us.
• The Charter Review Commission has recommended
eight changes to the City’s Charter. All of the items
are important and deserve your consideration. These
changes will ensure that Mayor, City Council and the
Administration will continue to govern to the best of
Low Income Snow Plowing for
Seniors
The Department of Human Services offers driveway snow plowing
for low income seniors. The program is solely for low income seniors
70 and over who have no one to clear their driveway. All residents who
desire the service must apply regardless of whether you have qualified in
the past.
Applications are available at the Human Services Center.
Proof of age and income is required. The only proof of income document
acceptable is a letter from the Ohio Department of Development
indicating household eligibility for the 2012-2013 or 2013-2014 Home
Energy Assistance Program, commonly referred to as HEAP.
There is a $10 annual fee for the service.
Important Homestead
Exemption Information
As a result of the Ohio Budget signed into law on June 30, a major
change is coming to the Homestead Exemption program that will
affect NEW applications. If you are already signed up and receive the
Homestead Exemption on your property taxes, THIS DOES NOT
AFFECT YOU!
Beginning in 2014, Ohio residents, age 65 or older, who are applying
for the first time, will have to show that they have annual income
less than $30,000 to qualify for the exemption. If you are already in the
program you do NOT have to reapply unless there is a change to your
property owner information.
Anyone who is at least 65 and not yet on Homestead or who will turn
65 before the end of the year has until June 2, 2014 to apply under the
old rules which do not have a maximum income limit.
For more information call the Cuyahoga County Homestead
Exemption Department at 216-443-7050. New applications for
Homestead Exemption will not be available until December.
safety & service
Back to School Tips From Our Police Department
The Brecksville Police Department would like to take this opportunity
to review some issues that will help keep our children safe while in transit
to and from school.
Parents should teach or review with their children the
following ideas:
u Safe walking practices to and from the bus stop or school
u How and where to wait for the bus safely including how to
deal with strangers
u What to do if the bus is late or does not arrive
All drivers should be aware of the following:
u The speed limit in all school zones is 20 MPH
u When a school bus is stopped to pick up or drop off children,
vehicles must also stop a minimum of 10' from the front or rear
of the bus, depending on their direction of travel
u If a bus is stopped on a street which has fewer than 4 lanes, all
traffic in either direction must stop. If traveling on a road with
4 lanes or more, only the traffic traveling in the same direction as
the bus must stop.
The department has worked with the schools in developing security
and crisis plans. Safety of our children is the responsibility of the entire
community. Please be careful and look out for them when driving.
Protecting our most valuable asset, our children, takes time, patience
and common sense. Consider the following safety tips:
Cover the Basics
u Practice with your children their phone number (including area
code), address, and full name. Talk to them about how and when
to make emergency phone calls, both at home and in public.
u Walk the neighborhood with your children. Point out the safe
places they can go in the event of an emergency. Point out dangerous
areas for them to avoid.
u
Talk to your children frequently about the potential danger of
strangers.
u Listen to your child, a good listening ear may detect a subtle clue
that your child might have a problem.
At School and Play
u
u
u
u
Make sure you know the exact way your child goes to and from
school.
Encourage your child to walk with and play with a friend. There is
safety in numbers.
Teach your children to display confidence when walking or
playing.
Encourage your child to look out for other children’s safety as well
and report anything suspicious to you.
u Let your child know that it is ok with you if they avoid strangers
when they are away from you.
At Home Alone
u
u
u
u
u
Before leaving your child home alone, make sure they are competent
to do so and emotionally prepared to do so as well.
Make sure there are phone numbers readily available in the event
your child needs to contact you. Phone numbers of neighbors
should also be available by each phone.
Make sure your child checks in with you at work as soon as they
arrive home. Agree on rules to follow when your child is home
alone. (friends, computer use, cooking, playing outside)
Instruct your child never to open the door for anyone or converse
with someone on the phone unless they are sure it is you or
someone they are permitted to talk to. Caller ID or an answering
machine will help with this.
Make sure they know how to work the door and window locks and
keep them locked at all times.
In the Kitchen…
Always watch stove top items.
Turn off burners if you must walk away – even for a minute.
Use a timer to remind you if you are using the oven.
Turn handles of pots and pans toward the back to avoid accidentally
knocking them over.
Avoid loose-fitting and dangling clothing on your arms and chest
while you cook.
Keep flammable materials like towels, potholders, papers, etc., away
from cooking appliances.
Be Fire Safe and Fire Smart
Electrical Equipment…
Do not overload and avoid using multi-plug adapters.
Be sure that electrical cords and extension cords are in proper working
condition, with no cracks or exposed wires.
Unplug small appliances like toasters and can openers when not in
use.
If an appliance appears to be malfunctioning have it checked and
repaired before using again.
Turn off and unplug decorations, such as Christmas lights and potpourri
burners, overnight and when you will not be home.
If You Smoke…
Use only deep-seated ashtrays to avoid
tipping and spilling.
Keep smoking materials away from combustible materials and wet
them before disposing of them.
Never smoke while lying down, when tired or when taking medications
that cause drowsiness.
Never smoke while using Medical Oxygen. Turn off the oxygen first,
then turn it back on when finished.
Heating…
Do not use your oven to heat your home.
Check cords on electric space heaters for breaks or cracks.
Only plug heaters into outlets that can handle the load. Avoid sharing
an outlet used by a heater with any other device.
Do not use extension cords with heaters.
Use only the correct fuel with kerosene heaters and store and handle
the fuel safely.
Let the heater cool completely before refueling.
Be sure fireplace flues are clear and always use a screen to deflect
sparks.
Keep combustible materials like blankets and clothing at least three
feet away from any heat sources.
Smoke Detectors…
Install smoke detectors on each level of your home and in all sleeping
areas.
Test smoke detectors monthly and change the batteries every six
months.
For help obtaining and installing smoke detectors and batteries, contact
your local fire department. Your case manager or area agency on
aging can identify other resources. 1-866-243-5678
Candles…
Never leave a candle or other open flame unattended.
Keep flammable materials, such as drapes, blankets and clothing, at
least three feet away from flame.
Extinguish candles and other open flames before leaving a room.
In a Fire…
Get out fast and stay out!
If you require assistance getting out of the house, close the door to
your room and stay near a window and stay on the phone with
rescuers.
Have a Plan…
Develop and practice a fire evacuation plan that includes at least two
ways to get out.
Review safety steps like checking closed doors for heat before opening,
using your emergency alert device if you have one and crawling on the
floor below the smoke.
When creating your plan, contact the fire department at 526-2640 to
let them know if you may be unable to evacuate without assistance. It
will make you and them safer in the event of a fire.
Natural Gas & Electricity
Information Meeting
September 18
Each year the City holds an informational meeting about natural gas
and electricity prices. If you want to be sure you are paying the lowest gas
rate in the upcoming heating season this meeting is a must. This year’s
meeting will be on Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30 pm at the Human
Services Center, 2 Community Drive.
It is very important to bring your most recent Dominion East Ohio
Gas bill and your most recent Illuminating Company bill with you. That
way we can provide one-on-one advice.
The rate on your August bill should have been no higher than $4.30
and your September bill should be no higher than $4.05. If it is you need
to attend the meeting.
No one should be on a fixed rate now or this winter. It is recommended
that you be on NOPEC’s variable rate. The NOPEC number is
888-848-7914.
If the letters SSO, SCO, or MVR are on your bill call NOPEC and
switch to their variable rate.
If you receive a letter from your current gas supplier about future service
read it carefully. There is a very real possibility the offer is too high.
Fall Leaf Collection Begins
Yard waste and grass pickup will end on Thursday, October 24.
Fall Leaf Collection begins on Monday, October 21 and will end on Friday,
November 29. When snowplows are operating, leaf vacuum service is suspended.
Watch for signs in your neighborhood indication an impending leaf
sweep. Leaves must be close to the street, but not on the street. Daily scheduling
is not possible.
2. Develop your leadership, communication and teaching skills
3. Build your resume
4. Earn money
5. Stay in great physical condition
• Starting in the water, swim 20 yards.
• Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound
object.
• Surface and swim 20 yards on back, with both hands holding the object.
• Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
If you are unsure of your ability to pass the prerequisites, please call Erin at 546-2318 to
Musical parody of 1950’s scifi movies
It’s 1955, the Eisenhower era of the Cold
War and the race to space. Flying saucers are
seen at the movies and in the late night sky. The
fictional Milwaukee Space Center is abuzz at the arrival of a leading rocket
scientist to launch a space probe. Then a space craft lands with the chief
Zombina who has come to conquer earth and take men back to help populate
her dying planet. This jepordizes the Space Center’s budding romances,
and offers another opportunity to spoof the 50’s politics and pop
culture.
