Town Transit Area Taxes for 2005-07<br />

• Property taxes in <strong>Stittsville</strong> cover:<br />

• Net operating costs for <strong>transit</strong> service only from <strong>Stittsville</strong> (estimated<br />

$1.0 million in 2006)<br />

• Same contribution to capital costs (bus fleet expansion, park and ride<br />

construction, etc.) as rest of urban area (estimated $477,000 in 2006)<br />

• For a typical <strong>Stittsville</strong> residence assessed in 2005 at $279,000:<br />

• 2005 – $192<br />

• 2006 – $228 (Increased service Sept-Dec, capital funding for full year)<br />

• 2007 – $300 (Full-year effect of funding and service decisions)<br />

• These figures are approximate and the 2007 numbers are not yet<br />

of via Harry Douglas<br />

• Four morning trips to downtown, four return trips in<br />

the afternoon<br />

• Shorter walking distance for 14 customer-trips/day<br />

• Longer walking distance for 4 customer-trips/day<br />

• No significant change in operating cost<br />

• Some people have expressed an interest in a <strong>transit</strong><br />

route between Richmond and <strong>Stittsville</strong><br />

• Primary users would be students from <strong>Stittsville</strong><br />

attending South Carleton and students from Richmond<br />

attending Sacred Heart<br />

• Service did operate September 2003 to June 2004<br />

• Ridership was very low; service did not meet financial<br />

expectations<br />

• Still feasible to operate<br />

• Cost would depend on number of trips<br />

• Staff do not recommend<br />

• Service east of Shea began in September 2006<br />

• Primary users are travelling to/from Specialty Care<br />

Granite Ridge long-term care facility and to/from<br />

residential areas along Granite Ridge and Harry<br />

Douglas<br />

• Currently carries 100 customer-trips/day Monday-<br />

Friday, 60 on Saturdays, 30 on Sundays<br />

• 80 percent of ridership is to/from stops on Abbott<br />

• Development has begun in Kanata West area<br />

more frequent <strong>transit</strong> service west of Terry Fox<br />

• Growth in Kanata West will reduce costs to be funded<br />

from <strong>Stittsville</strong> Town Transit Area<br />

• Route 96 will serve Hazeldean commercial area<br />

• Possible new east-west route on Maple Grove<br />

• Longer-term growth in Fernbank CDP area<br />
