Patrik Kittel RIDER & BUSINESSMAN 2015 Since the first edition of the World Dressage Masters, Swedish Olympic rider Patrik Kittel has always been an enthusiastic participant. Competing at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 with Floresco, the rider experienced his biggest equestrian successes with the KWPN-approved stallion Scandic. Now, with Scandic celebrating his sixteenth birthday this year, Kittel is already planning ahead, preparing both young horses and riders to join him at the highest ranks of the sport. WDM GUIDE PHOTOGRAPHY: LAVALETTO.SE hen I first learned about the WDM, I immediately “Wthought it was a great idea”, Kittel starts, “To have a dressage initiative alongside a series for show jumpers is not only attractive for the audience to follow, but also for the dressage riders themselves. Thus far, the shows have proven to be very well organised and it has been a pleasure to have been able to compete at them.” “Besides”, Kittel now laughs, “The prize money has also been very attractive. Especially for us, dressage riders, who are not as used to winning big amounts of prize money as our show jumping colleagues are!” Although born and raised in Sweden, Kittel has been based in Germany for the past 20 years. Since 2005 he resides in Nottuln, in the province of Westphalia. Here, he and his wife Lyndal run a competition and trading yard as well as a training centre for both horses and riders. “I find it too hard to choose between one of these aspects. I love showing horses, but also training 51
