Emails can be addressed to morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au. When children are absent from school for any reason, parents are requested to contact the Morris office before 9.00am. The office will advise the class teachers. Unexplained absences are followed up by a phone call to ensure the safety of children. If children are to be away for an extended period of time, parents are asked to formally write to the Head of Morris. Late Arrivals Children who arrive at School after the beginning of class (8.45am) will need to sign in at the office to ensure the attendance record, which would have been electronically marked in the classroom, is amended. Leaving the School Grounds All children leaving during the school day will need permission in writing from a parent, and will need to be signed out at the Morris Office. INFORMATION FOR PARENTS On occasions where children are returning to school after leaving the grounds, please ensure that they are signed back in at the Morris Office before returning to their class. Visitors to the School/Parent Help All visitors to Morris and parent helpers are asked to register at the Morris Office. Supervision Before School The school provides supervision for students in the Bark Chip/King Pin area outside Walpole, from 8.30am until 8.45am. Before School Care can be arranged for students at school before 8.30am. See Outside School Hours Care section below. Supervision After School Supervision for children is provided in the Bark Chip area until 3.30pm. Given the location of Morris and the amount of traffic in all adjacent streets, we ask parents to help us keep their children safe by picking them up from this area or the drive through area. Children who have not been collected by 3.30pm are taken to After School Care. Children going to After School Care go directly to Frank Wells Hall. Kindergarten students going to After School Care are collected from the Kindergarten. Other children catch buses from a variety of locations. They register with the duty teacher behind Wells who provides supervision until they are dismissed in time to catch their bus. We recognise that some children leave school independently to either walk home, meet up with older siblings at the High School or walk to parents’ work places. A form will be distributed to all families at the beginning of the School year asking for each child’s usual after school arrangements. This will be kept in the Morris Office for easy reference. School Buses The School bus is available to convey children to and from School for families living south of the city. Forms and costs are available from the Morris office. Outside School Hours Care Friends’ Early Years runs Before and After School Care and Vacation Care programs in the Frank Wells Hall at Morris. A number of places are available for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Hours of operation are 7.30am – 8.30am and from 3.00pm – 6.00pm. For information and bookings contact Friends’ Early Years on (03) 6210 2276. Accounts are calculated on an hourly basis and issued fortnightly. Temporary bookings may be filled if numbers allows by telephoning 6210 2276. Medical Care Canteen Medical forms are sent out at the beginning of the school year. The information on these forms is used in the event of illness or an emergency. For this reason, it is imperative that the school is kept up to date with any changes in details. Canteen menus are sent home at the start of each term, and are also published on the school website. Children from Prep to Year 6 can bring a paper bag with their order written on it and money placed inside. Children place their orders into boxes in the classroom which are collected each morning before 9.00am. Lunches are then delivered to each classroom at first break. Children can go to the canteen at afternoon recess to purchase snacks. Parents should be aware of any money their children bring to School and discourage them from bringing unnecessarily large amounts. The Friends’ School – Morris Handbook 2012, version 0.0.1 7
