Visual Arts - Education Programme Y Celfyddydau Gweledol – Y Rhaglen Addysg 2002 has been an exceptionally busy and successful year for the visual arts education service, with developments in all our regular provision as well as an extensive programme of special events and projects linking with the Arts Centre Gallery programme. This year a new departure has been exhibitions of participants’ work. Highlights of the 2001/2002 programme: Bu 2002 yn flwyddyn eithriadol o brysur a llwyddiannus i wasanaeth addysg y celfyddydau gweledol. Gwelwyd datblygiadau ym mhob agwedd ar ein darpariaeth reolaidd a chafwyd rhaglen helaeth o ddigwyddiadau arbennig a phrosiectau a oedd yn gysylltiedig â rhaglen Orielau’r Ganolfan, ac arddangosfeydd o waith aelodau'r cyrsiau. Uchafbwyntiau rhaglen 2001/2002: 11 2 An Aberystwyth Eye: a year-long photographic project recording local people’s lives and communities. People from varying backgrounds were chosen to reflect the diversity of people living in Ceredigion today. Work produced was exhibited in the summer of 2002, and the project members had an opportunity to meet renowned photographer David Bailey and show him their work at the exhibition’s launch. Visual Artists in Schools projects: made possible by the support of Barclays. Fresh Vision saw six schools linked with their own professional artist, who spent three weeks working with pupils. Work produced was exhibited in Gallery 2 in the autumn for six weeks, to great acclaim. Following on from the success of this first year, Barclays agreed to sponsor a second project, called Rural Lives. Work was exhibited at this year’s Royal Welsh Show, the National Eisteddfod in St Davids, and will be on display at branches of Barclays throughout the autumn prior to a full exhibition in Gallery 2 in Spring 2003. Making Buildings: a two week project linking with the exhibition in Gallery 1. The project consisted of Gallery sessions and hands-on workshops for adults and school groups and included construction of a large straw bale and rammed earth structure at the Arts Centre, with guidance from the Centre for Alternative Technology. Llygad ar Aberystwyth: prosiect ffotograffig i gofnodi bywydau pobl a’u cymunedau dros flwyddyn o amser. Dewiswyd pobl o wahanol gefndiroedd i adlewyrchu amrywiaeth poblogaeth Ceredigion heddiw. Yn ystod yr haf 2002, cynhaliwyd arddangosfa o’r gwaith a gynhyrchwyd ac fe gafodd aelodau’r prosiect gyfle i gwrdd â’r ffotograffydd byd-enwog David Bailey a dangos eu gwaith iddo yng nghyfarfod lansio’r arddangosfa. Prosiectau Artistiaid Gweledol mewn Ysgolion: gyda chefnogaeth Barclays. O dan y cynllun Gweledigaeth Ir bu chwe ysgol yn cydweithio â gwahanol artistiaid proffesiynol a dreuliodd dair wythnos yn gweithio gyda’r disgyblion. Dangoswyd cynnyrch y cydweithio yn Oriel 2 am chwe wythnos yn yr hydref ac fe gafodd ganmoliaeth fawr. Yn dilyn llwyddiant y flwyddyn gyntaf, cytunodd Barclays i noddi ail brosiect o’r enw Bywydau Gwledig. Dangoswyd y gwaith yn Sioe Frenhinol Cymru ac yn yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yn Nhyddewi eleni, bydd i’w weld mewn canghennau o Fanc Barclays trwy’r hydref ac yna cynhelir arddangosfa lawn yn Oriel 2 yn y Gwanwyn 2003. Gwneud Adeiladau: prosiect pythefnos o hyd yn gysylltiedig â’r arddangosfa yn Oriel 1. Cynhaliwyd sesiynau Oriel a gweithdai ymarferol ar gyfer oedolion a grwpiau ysgolion. Cafodd adeiladwaith mawr o fyrnau gwellt a phridd wedi’i wasgu ei greu yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau o dan gyfarwyddyd y Ganolfan Technoleg Amgen. 3 4
Japanese artist Yoshiko Shimada spent two weeks in residence working with the Sex and Consumerism exhibition. She gave public lectures and ran a series of innovative printing workshops. Why is Grass Green?: linking to the Sunbathers exhibition exhibiting artist Dan Harvey and IGER scientists Prof Thomas and Dr Ougham ran this week-long project with local schools and the public. They gave talks, ran workshops, and students made their own grass pictures. Bu artist, Dan Harvey, a gwyddonwyr o IGER, yr Athro Thomas a Dr Ougham, yn cydweithio ag ysgolion a’r cyhoedd am wythnos. Buont yn annerch ac yn cynnal gweithdai a bu myfyrwyr yn gwneud eu lluniau porfa eu hunain. 1. Sun Sea & Art / Haul Môr a Chelf 2. An Aberystwyth Eye / Llygad ar Aberystwyth 3. Why is Grass Green? / Why is Grass Green? 4. Pottery Class / Dosbarth Crochenwaith National Children’s Art Day: exhibiting artist and curator Susan Adams worked with Ysgol Ysbyty Ystwyth on creating descriptive labels for the Something in the Woodshed exhibition. The Sound of Music: linked to the concert by the European Union Chamber Orchestra, where the music was used to inspire large abstract paintings and actual musical instruments. Sponsored by Schroders and Arts & Business, project work was exhibited on the night of the concert and school sessions were recorded and included on an educational CD ROM. Sun, Sea and Art: a Land Art project organised with the Marine Heritage Coast project. A series of workshops took place at beaches throughout Ceredigion in August. Exhibitions: the visual arts education service has curated three highly successful exhibitions of participants’ work in 2002. Fresh Vision, An Aberystwyth Eye and Rural Lives. Regular activity: includes 21 regular weekly classes in the visual arts, holiday courses for adults and children, an extensive schools’ programme including Art Days for up to 100 pupils at a time, and “Arts For All” projects with local community groups. “The Grass Project was brilliant. The children really enjoyed it. The pieces that were made are still on display in the school and kept well. Defnyddiwyd y gerddoriaeth i ysbrydoli paentiadau mawr haniaethol ac offerynnau cerdd. Noddwyd y prosiect gan Schroders a Celfyddydau a Busnes a dangoswyd y gwaith ar noson y cyngerdd. Recordiwyd sesiynau mewn ysgolion a’u cynnwys ar CD ROM addysgol. Haul, Môr a Chelf: prosiect Celfyddyd Tir a drefnwyd ar y cyd â phrosiect yr Arfordir Treftadaeth Morol. Cynhaliwyd cyfres o weithdai ar draethau ledled Ceredigion ym mis Awst. Arddangosfeydd: mae gwasanaeth addysg y celfyddydau gweledol wedi trefnu tair arddangosfa eithriadol o lwyddiannus o waith y sawl a gymerodd ran mewn gwahanol brosiectau yn 2002. Gweledigaeth Ir, Llygad ar Aberystwyth a Bywydau Gwledig. Gweithgareddau rheolaidd: cynhelir 21 o ddosbarthiadau wythnosol rheolaidd yn y celfyddydau gweledol, cyrsiau gwyliau ar gyfer oedolion a phlant, rhaglen helaeth i ysgolion yn cynnwys Dyddiau Celf ar gyfer hyd at gant o blant ar y tro a phrosiectau "Celfyddydau i Bawb" gyda grwpiau cymunedol lleol. ‘Roedd Prosiect y Borfa yn wych. Roedd y plant wrth eu bodd. Mae’r darnau a wnaethom i'w gweld yn yr ysgol o hyd ac maen nhw wedi cadw'n dda.
