2. i) At any point during the academic term/year, the <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> reserves the right to terminate a<br />
student’s experience in a nursing practice setting, when patterns <strong>of</strong> behaviour place self, clients or<br />
others at risk. This will result in the student receiving a fail grade (F) for the course. In this<br />
circumstance, students shall have established rights <strong>of</strong> appeal; however, they cannot remain in the<br />
course while the appeal is underway. <strong>The</strong> appeal will be conducted promptly in order to protect<br />
student rights.<br />
ii) <strong>The</strong> student may be withdrawn from the nursing program for reasons <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional unsuitability.<br />
3. An Incomplete grade assigned to a nursing practice course must be cleared prior to the <strong>of</strong>ficial start<br />
date <strong>of</strong> the subsequent nursing practice course.<br />
4. All nursing theory courses must be completed within 5 years <strong>of</strong> the prerequisite pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses.<br />
(For example, no more than 5 years can elapse between completion <strong>of</strong> Year 1 pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses<br />
and enrolment in Year 2 pr<strong>of</strong>essional courses).<br />
STUDENT CONFIDENTIAL FILES<br />
Student academic progress files are kept in the Daphne Cockwell <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong>. <strong>The</strong>y must be<br />
respected as a confidential file. Students may access their own file but MAY NOT remove any <strong>of</strong> the<br />
contents.<br />
ACADEMIC APPEALS<br />
<strong>The</strong> details for appeals are outlined in the <strong>Ryerson</strong> <strong>University</strong> Calendar and at<br />
www.ryerson.ca/senate/policies/pol134.pdf. <strong>The</strong> following modifications apply within the Daphne<br />
Cockwell <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong>.<br />
Specifically:<br />
• Deadlines for the first level appeal <strong>of</strong> a nursing course will be within 10 working days <strong>of</strong> receipt <strong>of</strong><br />
written nursing final grade.<br />
• Students who are appealing a failed nursing course grade will not be allowed to continue in a<br />
subsequent nursing practice course until the appeal is grated (or the course is repeated). Every effort<br />
will be made to expedite the appeal process in order to protect student rights.<br />
• Medical documentation will be required when illness cited as a reason for difficulties.<br />
• <strong>The</strong> Director receives the appeal and the Daphne Cockwell <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Nursing</strong> Appeals Committee<br />
adjudicates the appeal.<br />
STUDENT CODE OF NON-ACADEMIC CONDUCT<br />
Each <strong>Nursing</strong> Student will follow and adhere to the code <strong>of</strong> non-academic conduct <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ryerson</strong> while on<br />
