Your Ride’s Here!
If this is your first time riding an Amtrak California train, welcome!
For those who’ve taken the train before, welcome back!
This is an exciting time for Amtrak California. Ridership on
California’s three state-supported intercity routes is up more
than nine percent over last year. Everyone is feeling the pinch of
high gas prices and looking for alternatives to driving—and with
Amtrak California’s San Joaquin®, Pacific Surfliner® and Capitol
Corridor® trains, complemented by an extensive Thruway bus
system, you can travel to more than 175 destinations throughout
California, Southern Oregon and Nevada.
With the increased interest in train travel, we realize there is
a need for more trains, even more convenient bus connections
and improved overall services. The California Department of
Transportation along with the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers
Authority and Amtrak® are dedicated to meeting these needs.
Here are just a few of the new features being implemented with
this schedule change:
On the San Joaquin®
• Additional bike racks are being installed
• Additional capacity will be created
(more cars being added on weekends)
• Improved baggage service is being provided
• En Route rest-room cleaning is being initiated
• New bus connections are being added from the South Bay
and West Los Angeles connecting passengers with Pacific
Surfliner and Metrolink trains in Van Nuys and San Joaquin
trains in Bakersfield
On the Capitol Corridor®
• New “Quiet Cars” are being introduced
When we released the Spring/Summer 2008 Timetable with its
new format in May of this year, we asked for your comments and
feedback. We appreciate your suggestions and have incorporated
a number of updates in the Fall 2008/Winter 2009 Timetable.
The most significant change is the inclusion of the Capitol
Corridor train schedule. This all-in-one travel planning tool now
provides complete train schedules for all three state-supported
routes, complete bus schedules, a comprehensive system map
and additional passenger information that will help you when
planning your travel.
If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this
timetable, please drop us a line at: railmarketing@dot.ca.gov or
write us at: Caltrans, Division of Rail, Marketing Branch, P.O. Box
942874, MS 74, Sacramento, CA 94274-0001.
We know you have choices when making travel decisions.
We hope you’ll think of Amtrak California as your “other car.”
It’s affordable, relaxing and fun!
Enjoy your trip - Your ride’s here!
