Traveling on <strong>Amtrak</strong> <strong>California</strong> <strong>is</strong> fun and easy!<br />

STEP 1<br />

Plan Your Route<br />

Using the System Map on page 20, determine your starting and ending points.<br />

Identify which train corridor you will be traveling on and if there <strong>is</strong> a connecting<br />

<strong>Amtrak</strong> Thruway Motorcoach route included as part of your travel.<br />

STEP 2<br />

Select Departure Time<br />

Using the train and bus schedules, locate your starting and ending points.<br />

Read across each column to determine your train or bus number. Read down<br />

each column to determine your departure times.<br />

STEP 3<br />

Purchase A Ticket *<br />

Tickets may be purchased in advance through <strong>Amtrak</strong> (at any open staffed station<br />

or on-line at <strong>Amtrak</strong>.com), a travel agent, or at a Quik-Trak ticket kiosk. For<br />

San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner schedule information v<strong>is</strong>it <strong>Amtrak</strong>.com or call<br />

1-800-USA-RAIL. For Capitol Corridor schedule information call 1-877-9-RIDECC<br />

or v<strong>is</strong>it capitolcorridor.org. For a l<strong>is</strong>ting of staffed <strong>Amtrak</strong> stations and Quik-Trak<br />

ticket kiosk locations see the Station Directory on page 37.<br />

STEP 4<br />

Board The Train or Bus<br />

Train Passengers—Just board your train! You are welcome to sit anywhere<br />

there <strong>is</strong> an available seat. Remember to store your carry-on luggage in overhead<br />

compartments or under your seat. The conductor will come by and ask for your<br />

ticket. A card with your destination will be placed above your seat. If you decide<br />

to change seats during the course of your trip, be sure to take th<strong>is</strong> card with you.<br />

If you do not have a ticket, you may purchase one from the conductor*.<br />

Bus Passengers—Just board your bus! You are welcome to sit anywhere there<br />

<strong>is</strong> an available seat. Remember to store your carry-on luggage in overhead<br />

compartments. You may also store luggage in the luggage compartment. Your<br />

bus operator will ask for your ticket. If you do not have a ticket, you may board<br />

the bus and purchase a ticket at the next open staffed <strong>Amtrak</strong> station.<br />

The driver will ask for your photo ID, which will be returned to you once you<br />

purchase your ticket*.<br />

*You may board an <strong>Amtrak</strong> <strong>California</strong> train or <strong>Amtrak</strong> Thruway bus without a ticket.<br />

If you do, your valid I.D. will be collected by the conductor or driver and returned to you<br />

after you have purchased your rail/bus ticket at the next open ticket office. Please note<br />

that an additional service charge may apply.<br />
