Pastoral Care of the Sick
Priests and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are
available to bring Holy Communion to parishioners
confined to home. Please call the Rectory to make
arrangements. Those who are seriously ill should request a
priest for Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing of the Sick
is celebrated each Monday morning during the 9:00 a.m.
Mass. If you would like to be anointed, please sit in the first
row of the pulpit transept.

Stewardship a Way of Life
This Week’s Readings
“Who do you say that I am?” Jesus asks Peter in
today’s Gospel. Does my use of the gifts and talents
entrusted to me accurately reflect my answer to that
same question? How willing am I to deny myself,
take up my cross, and follow in His steps?

TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners:
From the Rector
I became very conscious this past week of
the saying that “timing is everything in life.” In
last week’s bulletin, I wrote to inform you that we
were working on replacing the cross on top of the
Cathedral that had been lost during Superstorm
Sandy.
In the letter, I relayed to you how we had
never found the cross and one theory was that it
had been broken apart due to the high winds. On
Friday (this is where the saying “timing is
everything in life” comes in), as the bulletins with
that letter were probably being prepared for
delivery to St. Agnes, the cross was found! As
the company doing roofing work on the Ministry
Building (the building on Quealy Place to the left
of the Rectory) directed their attention to a flat
garage roof in the back of the building, they
located the missing cross. Apparently it had
blown from the top of the Cathedral, over the
Rectory and onto this resting place.
The cross’ composition is a rather light
material which obviously aided its flight but
certainly did not help in the prevention of it being
rather badly twisted and bent. Whether any part
of it can be salvaged remains to be seen. In the
end, however, the most extensive part of
replacing the cross is still going to entail getting
up to the top of the bell tower where the cross will
be affixed. In the meantime, however, we no
longer need to ask for the intercession of St.
Helena, the founder of the true cross, for help in
finding our missing one.
As always, I will keep you informed.

Religious Education Registration
Children Entering 1st Grade
in September, 2013
HELP US FIND NEW LEVEL 1 STUDENTS
Level 1 registration is going very slowly. Please help
us out. If you know a family with a child entering 1 st
grade in September, please let them know that they
should register for Religious Education before the end
of June. Registration is in the Religious Education
Office. A full year of Level 1 is required before a
child can enter Level 2 and prepare for Reconciliation
and First Holy Communion.
WE NEED YOU!
Sharing faith with children is both a great joy and a
way of growing in your own faith. We are currently in
need of catechists for several grade levels. You can
teach alone or team-teach with a friend or relative. All
classes are held at St. Agnes Cathedral Elementary
school. If you can offer your time and talents by
taking a class of approximately 15 students, please
call the Religious Ed. office at 678-2306. We need
catechists for the following times, days and grade
levels:
4:30 p.m. on Monday – Level 6
5:45 p.m. on Monday - Level 3, Level 4
4:30 p.m. on Tuesday – Level 4
5:45 p.m. on Tuesday – Level 3, Level 4, Level 5
7:00 p.m. on Tuesday – Level 3, Level 4, Level 5, and
Level 6
Becoming A Catholic
Have you or someone you know thought about being
baptized a Catholic? Have you been baptized in
another faith tradition but now want to become
Catholic? Are you a baptized Catholic who has never
had any religious education or has not received
Confirmation and First Eucharist? If you answered yes
to any of these questions then the Rite of Christian
Initiation (RCIA for short) is for you. Call the

Tickets Available
Tickets to see and hear the St. Agnes Cathedral Choir
of Men and Boys sing the National Anthem at
Citifield are available.
Our Boys and Men will perform the National Anthem
on July 24, 7:10 Game. Braves vs. Mets. There are
special tickets available for $30 per person to join the
choir families and friends of St. Agnes Parish in the
BIG APPLE RESERVE section of the stadium. Come
enjoy the night and support our singers! To order
tickets through the choir, please call the Music Office
at 764-9578, checks made payable to St. Agnes Boys
Choir.
CONCERT
Saturday Evening, June 29, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.
The St. Agnes Cathedral Choirs and the Diocesan
Boys Choir of Rockville Centre under the direction of
Maestro Michael L. Bower will hold a Concert at the
Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus located at 163
Hill Street, Southampton, New York.
The concert will include choir favorites including “A
Jubilant Song” of Allen Pote, “For the Beauty of the
Earth” by John Rutter, and Handel’s “Hallelujah
Chorus.” Suggested donation is $20. For further

St. Agnes Outreach
Our food pantry is in need of the
following items: rice, tuna fish, peanut
butter and jelly, Goya Beans, marinara
sauce, pork and beans, and cereal.
We are in need of Spring and Summer clothing for
men, women and children. Due to limited space, we
are asking for only this seasonal clothing at the present
time.

Dear Parishioners:
I am writing in regard to our desire to replace the hymnals in the Cathedral and Lower Hall. The hymnals
in the Cathedral have served us well. However, they are almost ten years old and have fallen into greater
and greater states of disrepair. The hymnals in the Lower Hall are even older and they too are in need of
replacement.
After a good amount of investigation and discussion we have chosen the Worship IV Hymnal for the
Cathedral and the Breaking Bread Missalette for the Lower Hall. Each of these Hymnals contains the
revised translation of the Mass, which means that we will no longer need pew cards for prayers such as
the Creed. They also contain the revised Mass settings which will enable us to sing certain parts of the
Mass without having to have additional pages printed each week. These hymnals include music that is
currently sung as well as some new music. Please also know that the hymnal chosen for the Lower Hall is
"user friendly" for families and, because it is a missalette, it will be replaced every year.
As we did ten years ago, we are asking you to consider gifting/memorializing one or more of these
hymnals. The cost of the Worship IV Hymnal is $22. and the cost of memorializing three years of the
Breaking Bread Missalette is also $22. On each of the hymnals there will be a bookplate memorializing
each gift. The enclosed sheet describes the three different forms that are available for the bookplate as
well as a limited number of other books related to the hymnals that can be memorialized.
I thank you for your consideration of this request. Your gift will certainly enable us as a parish to
continue to lift our hearts and voices to God and. at the same time, remember your intention.
