Pastoral Care of the Sick
Priests and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are
available to bring Holy Communion to parishioners
confined to home. Please call the Rectory to make
arrangements. Those who are seriously ill should request a
priest for Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing of the Sick
is celebrated each Monday morning during the 9:00 a.m.
Mass. If you would like to be anointed, please sit in the first
row of the pulpit transept.

This Week’s Readings
In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives His disciples, and us, a
new commandment: “Love one another.” Good
stewards who spend their time and talents in service to
others are well on their way to fulfilling this
commandment.

ministry such as greeters, ushers and our welcome
committee.

St. Agnes Cathedral School
and
Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation
The second collection on May 4 th and 5 th is in
support of St. Agnes Cathedral School and the
Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation. Tomorrow’s
Hope provides tuition assistance to students in
need attending Catholic elementary schools and
gives grants directly to schools to offset general
expenses. Last year the Foundation gave over
$1.75 million to students while actual student
need was over $6 million.
Our school has many needs. Tuition, parish
subsidy and fundraising all help to balance the
budget. Each year, however, new technologies
and curricular needs arise. The money that you
give to the second collection on May 4 th and 5 th
will help to expand the school’s academic
excellence and helps to remain a place where our
faith is taught and lived.
Sustaining Catholic elementary education is vital
to the future of our society and our Church. Our
students are our future. They are tomorrow’s
hope. Please be as generous as possible with your
donation on May 4 th and 5 th .

The St. Agnes Chorale Cookbook
Good News! The St. Agnes Cathedral Chorale
Cookbook, “Kitchen Master Pieces” will be arriving
in time for Mother’s Day gift giving. Included are
over 180 delicious recipes from the Chorale, their
family and friends.
It is the perfect item to either give as a gift or for you
to use to serve your family and guests.
Pre-orders can be placed for $12.50 each by calling

must be placed and paid for by April 30, 2013. Books
may be picked up in the Music Office in the Parish
Ministry Building.
Cookbooks will be available for purchase after all the
Masses on the weekend of May 4th and 5th at the rear

go toward the planned music tour of Ireland in 2015
featuring the Cathedral Chorale.

First Holy Communion
Rehearsal for the May 4th, 11:30 a.m. First Holy
Communion is on Wednesday, May 1st at 3:45 p.m. in
the Cathedral.
Rehearsal for the 1:00 p.m. First Holy Communion
Mass is at 5:30 p.m. Please be on time and make sure
you bring your completed banner.
Grade 1 Religious Education Registration
for those entering grade 1 in the Fall begins the last
week of April in the Religious Education Office. The
Office is open from 9:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Monday
through Friday. Please bring a copy of your child’s
baptismal certificate at the time of registration.
Current Level 1 parents are reminded that workbooks
are due the week of April 29 th . Make sure your child’s
full name is written on the inside cover or first page.

Becoming a Catholic.

Hebrew Scripture Course
Dr. Jo-Ann Metzdorff will be teaching an introductory
5 week course on the Hebrew Scriptures (Old
Testament) on Monday evenings beginning May 6 th .
Classes will be in the Ministry Building and will run
from 7:15-9:15 PM. The course fee is $20. There will
be no class on Memorial Day. Catechists are
encouraged to take this course which is one of the 6
courses that leads to a Basic Theology Certificate from
the Diocesan Office of Faith Formation. Registration

The National Day of Prayer is a vital part of our heritage. Since the first call to prayer in 1775, when the Continental
Congress asked the colonies to pray for wisdom in forming a nation, the call to prayer has continued through our
history, including President Lincoln’s proclamation of a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer” in 1863. In 1952,
a joint resolution by Congress, signed by President Truman, declared an annual national day of prayer. In 1988, the
law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday of every May.
Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. Last year, all 50 state
governors plus the governors of several U.S. territories signed similar proclamations.
The upcoming 62nd annual National Day of Prayer, May 2, 2013, will have profound significance for our country.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to see the Lord’s healing and renewing power made manifest as we call on
citizens to humbly come before His throne. To echo the words of Mary Washington, mother of our nation’s first
president, we believe it is time to “Remember that God is our only sure trust.”
The theme for 2013 is Pray for America, emphasizing the need for individuals, corporately and individually, to
place their faith in the unfailing character of their Creator, who is sovereign over all governments, authorities, and
men. To further highlight our theme, we’ve chosen Matthew 12:21 as our Scripture for this year: “In His name the
nations will put their hope.”

Sandel Senior Center is starting its SPA program on
June 3rd. SPA (Successful Proactive Aging), also
know as Senior People in Action, runs for three
months and is one of the most successful programs in
the facility. SPA provides physical exercise classes
including cardio dance, yoga, pilates, zumba, tai chi ,
nutritional guidance, and mind-body stimulation for all
levels of seniors. During the month of May there will
be previews of the SPA programs. This is a unique
opportunity for people to see the Center in action.
