Pastoral Care of the Sick
Priests and Extraordinary Ministers of Communion are
available to bring Holy Communion to parishioners
confined to home. Please call the Rectory to make
arrangements. Those who are seriously ill should request a
priest for Anointing of the Sick. The Anointing of the Sick
is celebrated each Monday morning during the 9:00 a.m.
Mass. If you would like to be anointed, please sit in the first
row of the pulpit transept.

This Week’s Readings
Today’s readings speak of hospitality. Abraham who
cheerfully did for his guests all that desert hospitality
required was rewarded with his heart’s desire —a son.
Martha also busied herself with all the details of
hospitality but grudgingly and with complaint. Am I a
cheerful or grudging giver?
Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish
who feed the hungry through such efforts as St.
Vincent de Paul Food Pantry or Long Island Cares
Harry Chapin Food Bank, etc.

SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Parishioners:
From the Rector
As you may have noticed from the bulletin
or other communication, a recent golf outing for
the support of seminarians in the Diocese of
Rockville Centre honored several priests who had
been Vocation Directors for the Diocese of
Rockville Centre.
As one of those "former Vocation Directors," I
was in that group of honorees. The event took
place this past Monday, and while I cannot report
that my golfing skills put me in the winner's circle
(I wish I could say this was due to the heat,
instead of my golfing acumen), the day itself was
a winner. There was great participation and a
wonderful spirit of support for the men who are in
formation for the priesthood.
I especially thank the parishioners of St.
Agnes who supported the event by playing golf,
attending the dinner and/or contributing towards
sponsorships and the journal. I am most grateful
for your thoughtfulness and generosity. May the
blessing you have been to others be returned to
you many times over.

Golden Wedding Liturgy
This fall, couples that have been
married fifty years or more will be
honored at liturgies on Sunday, October
6th at the Church of Saint Rose of Lima
in Massapequa and on Sunday
November 3rd at the Church of Christ
the King in Commack. Both liturgies will begin at
2:30 p.m. Couples may register for ONE liturgy.
Registration forms and complete instructions can be
obtained at the rectory. Registration must be received
by the Office of Worship by September 19th for the
October 6th liturgy and by October 17th for the
November 3rd liturgy. There will be additional
celebrations in the spring for those who may find that
more convenient. Dates for the spring celebrations
will be communicated at a later time. If your have any

Banjo Cruise on July 31, 2013
This cruise is filled. However we do have a waiting
list. Just a reminder that parking will be in St. Agnes
School yard. The yard will be open at 10:30

Treasurers of the Heart

Presenter: Sr. Ave Clark, OP is a Dominican sister of
Amityville. She is the author of several books and
articles on spirituality and healing. She is a pastoral
counselor and coordinator of Heart -to -Heart ministry.
Sister Ave comes to her ministry with a gentle heart
that loves to pray.
Additional Blood Drive
At the request of New York Blood Services, the
Council is hosting an additional parish blood drive on
Sunday, July 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the
Msgr. Kelly Parish Center. Pledge cards will be
collected after all the Masses on July 14th. Anyone
who gave blood before June 2nd is eligible to donate
on July 28th, and will still be able to donate at the Fall
parish blood drive on October 4th, so please join us to
give the gift of life on July 28th. If you're interested in

Village of Rockville Centre
Nursery School
The Rockville Centre Recreation Department is
pleased to offer Nursery School programs for the 2013
-2014 School year. These programs, designed to meet
the needs of the community, have operated
continuously with great success for over 50 years. An
extended day program is available for 4 year olds,
with a 3 day a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
enrichment class.
Eligibility:
Pre Kindergarten for those entering kindergarten in
September 2014.
Pre Pre Kindergarten for those entering kindergarten
in September 2015.

Tennis
The Har-Tru courts, adjacent to the Rec. Center,
located at 111 North Oceanside Road are open from

Fall Programs

August 12th for RVC residents and will continue
through September. All registrations are accepted on
a first come, first-served basis. Detailed flyers are

Volunteers Needed
Catholic Charities CSFP (Commodity Supplemental
Food Program) is seeking volunteers to assist in food
distribution, unloading trucks and general warehouse
work at our Freeport location. The center is open
Monday—Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Days and
times are flexible. If you are interested and available
in the above volunteer opportunity or in any other
volunteer areas, please contact Mary Ellen

Catholic Charities Oceanside Senior Community
Service Center located at St. Anthony’s Parish, 80

and over to their multipurpose senior center.

Religious Education
St. Agnes Religious Education Office wishes you a very happy, healthy and safe summer. Our offices
will be open during the summer months from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or by appointment. Registration is
ongoing for those entering Level 1 in the fall and all new students of any grade level. All Level 1
students must register even if there is an older sibling already in the program. If you know a Catholic
family with a child entering 1st grade in September please remind them to register their child for Level
1 as soon as possible. A full year of Level 1 is required before a child can enter Level 2 and prepare for
Reconciliation and First Holy Communion.
Thank you to those who responded to the call for catechists to teach our Catholic faith to our children.
We still are in need several catechists for the following grade levels:
Level 4 – One catechist each on Mondays at 5:45 p.m.; Tuesdays at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.
Level 5 – Two catechists on Mondays at 5:45 p.m.
Level 6 – One catechist on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Level 7 – Two catechists on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m.
Level 8 –Facilitators are needed to lead Level 8 discussion groups. This will not be as involved as if you
were teaching a class. Call the religious education office for more information.
Class schedules for the Fall are as follows:
Grades 2-6 – Mondays at 4:30 p.m. or 5:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. (mostly level 4-6) - grades 2 & 3 limited
to those with siblings in upper grades.
Grades 2-6 – Tuesday 4:30 p.m. (mostly level 2)- 5:45 p.m. (mostly level 3) – 7:00 p.m. (mostly level
4-6)
Grade 7 – Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
Grade 8 – Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. approximately twice a month
Educating children in the faith is a rewarding experience and it helps you to grow in your own
relationship with Christ. You will be given all the tools and assistance you need and you will join a
great group of experienced catechists who can help you along your way. We can also use classroom
assistants and hall monitors on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays . All volunteers must fill out a
volunteer registration form and attend a VIRTUS (Protecting God’s Children) session. Please call the

Dear Parishioners:
I am writing in regard to our desire to replace the hymnals in the Cathedral and Lower Hall. The hymnals
in the Cathedral have served us well. However, they are almost ten years old and have fallen into greater
and greater states of disrepair. The hymnals in the Lower Hall are even older and they too are in need of
replacement.
After a good amount of investigation and discussion we have chosen the Worship IV Hymnal for the
Cathedral and the Breaking Bread Missalette for the Lower Hall. Each of these Hymnals contains the
revised translation of the Mass, which means that we will no longer need pew cards for prayers such as the
Creed. They also contain the revised Mass settings which will enable us to sing certain parts of the Mass
without having to have additional pages printed each week. These hymnals include music that is currently
sung as well as some new music. Please also know that the hymnal chosen for the Lower Hall is "user
friendly" for families and, because it is a missalette, it will be replaced every year.
As we did ten years ago, we are asking you to consider gifting/memorializing one or more of these
hymnals. The cost of the Worship IV Hymnal is $22. and the cost of memorializing three years of the
Breaking Bread Missalette is also $22. On each of the hymnals there will be a bookplate memorializing
each gift. The enclosed sheet describes the three different forms that are available for the bookplate as well
as a limited number of other books related to the hymnals that can be memorialized.
I thank you for your consideration of this request. Your gift will certainly enable us as a parish to continue
to lift our hearts and voices to God and. at the same time, remember your intention.
